Christmas decorations are everywhere, garland and lights and a massive tree. Everyone turns to look at me. I’m still wearing last night’s clothes, my makeup is smeared, and my hair is a disaster. The crowd parts slowly, and I can see through to the main hall where a bonding arch is set up with white flowers and red ribbons and Christmas greenery. Nick is standing under the arch in a tuxedo, looking devastating and perfect and completely unreachable. Jessica is next to him in a white dress. Once I’m in my room I grab the present from Chase out of my jacket pocket, walk over to my bed, put on my bedside lamp, go back and turn off my bedroom light, and go back to my bed to get ready for my midnight call with Chase. Just as the clock struck midnight my phone lights up signaling an incoming video call. Putting in my air pods, and connecting them to my phone, I accept the call and I wait for it to connect before I can see Chase’s face fill my phone screen. “Merry Christmas Savannah,” Chase says to me as the call connects with the smile he saves just for me. “Merry Christmas Chase,” I return the same special smile I have just for him back. “How was your Christmas Eve?” Chase asks me.
