You see the witches were always on our side, but now fear has pushed them to live in isolation in the deepest parts of the most dangerous of forests. Long ago, we had an agreement with the werewolves and vampires in order to keep the peace. The rich humans would live a comfortable life with no fear of being eaten by the vampires and the poor were taken as slaves or used as breeders too keep the blood supply up.
