This isn’t—” “What's your reason?" I cut in, crossing my hands on my chest as I engaged him in a staring contest.

Her hands clenched into tight fists and she turned right around, stomping out of the dining hall. Chloe let out a small snort and covered her mouth with her hand but her eyes shone with so much amusement that it was insulting. Jax noticed her gaze and his fingers tightened so hard around his fork that the metal bent. Yet, he forced a smile onto his face. “Chloe, you look lovely today. Is that a new hairstyle?” My smile vanished. What were his eyes doing on my mate’s body? Chloe did not skip a beat in replying. She brushed her hair out of her face. “Axel tends to get his hands everywhere when he kisses me. He must have tussled my hair.”

The sound of fists hitting skin, the shouts, the chaos — it all blurred together. “Stop it!” I shouted, stepping forward, but neither of them heard me. Asher caught Adrian by the collar. “You stay away from her!” Adrian shoved him off, blood streaking the corner of his lip. “Then make her stay away from me!” The words hit like a slap. And then Chloe laughed. Loud and cruel. “This is perfect. The two idiots fighting over the same broken girl.” Something inside me snapped. I turned on her, my voice shaking but fierce. “You think this is funny? You tried to destroy me, and now you’re enjoying watching them destroy each other?”

Ash’s POV The roar of the clubhouse hit me before I even turned off my engine. Laughter, shouts and the sound of bottles clinking rent the air and for a moment, I wonder how they could easily fall back into their normal lives less than twelve hours after an attack. It was chaos the way I remembered it, but somehow louder and more… non challant. Inside, the air was thick with smoke and sweat. A few brothers cheered when they saw me, others nodded, their eyes sharp, reading me like they weren’t sure what version of Ash had come back.

She dropped it and rushed towards them.

“How many people have that level of clearance?” “Fewer than twenty.” “And how many of them are still inside the estate?” “Seventeen.” She went silent. Vance watched her carefully. “What?” She shook her head. “Nothing.” “Clara.” “I just realized something.” “What?” “The messages.” She pointed at the chip. “If the person has been communicating with the Syndicate for three weeks, they knew about Operation Ashfall before it happened.” Vance’s expression hardened. “That’s what I’m thinking.” “Then Torin wasn’t working alone.”
