Whispered voices filled the air, faint and echoing, too strange to understand but enough to send chills down my spine. Ash lifted his hand. His nails darkened, lengthened, curved—like demonic blades born from darkness itself. “Don’t move,” he ordered quietly. His hand took mine. He didn’t rush it, like this moment had to be felt fully. His fingers were cold but steady as he opened my palm and gently pressed it down on the glowing symbol beneath us. With a quick, sharp motion, his demonic nail sliced my skin. The sting spread immediately, but somehow it wasn’t as bad as I’d expected. My blood trickled out slow, warm and red, dripping onto the floor before Ash bent down.

Gods. A pair of gryphons soar overhead, their bondeds laughing as they dive through the clouds. Direwolves and their humans moving in perfect sychronizon. One particulary unimpressed frost lynx lounges across a tree branch, glaring down at everyone beneath it like they are personally offending its existence. Further in the distance, Ironclad dragons train with their bondeds, bronze scales glimmering beneath the rising sun. Terrifying, but majestic. For a few silent moments, I simply watch. Because despite all else, I still love them. I always have, even though Aetherion Academy was not supposed to be my future.

The subidón of total, lawless victory over our attackers sent a violent jolt of pure, unadulterated heat straight to my core. Asher strode over to me, his chest heaving, his face smeared with black mud and the blood of his victims. He grabbed the front of my tactical shirt, hauling my body up against the hot hood of a militarized all-terrain vehicle the mercenaries had abandoned at the edge of the clearing. "You set the grid perfectly, doll," Asher growled, his wild eyes dilated with an unhinged, feral lust as his large hands violently ripped the zipper of my tactical trousers open.

"Glenn! You’re acting like a common assassin for the very men who would see our lineage burned to cinders! Drop the blade!" Glenn doesn't even flicker. He doesn't look at me like the boy I grew up with, the boy who stood by my side during the harsh winters, the one who shared rations when the storehouses were empty. His face is a mask of granite, carved from the same cold, uncompromising stone as the Grand Wolf Assembly he now serves. He charges, his sword hissing as it slices through the stagnant air. It is a blur of lethal, practiced speed, a testament to the brutal training the Assembly forces upon its elite guards.

Its strength surpassed that of the scent of blood, and was stronger than the expensive cologne he wore, that even now I could smell. “Apologize to your Luna.” When Asher spoke his voice resembled the endless pit I had seen in his eyes, the very one I somehow chased away using magic. His hair wasn’t even disheveled from the fight—his heart rate barely elevated. His spine was made of pure steel, as rigid and unbreakable as his stance. Clint Armstrong sucked in a deep, shaky breath and spat a wad of saliva and blood at my feet.

Silence rang out amongst the crowd, allowing us to hear Hael’s flesh split as his father swung, aiming for his heart. Xavier had underestimated his son and the monster he had molded him into. A jagged slash of white marred Hael’s face as he grinned up at his father. At the last second, Hael grabbed hold of Xavier’s arm and kicked. His combat boot smashed into Xavier’s chest, sending him flying backwards. With four long slices carved across his torso, each one weeping a river of fresh blood, Hael Ashford climbed to his feet.

The battle had only just begun, and already a martial god had fallen. Who exactly was this sword-wielding warrior from Holtrien? Asher and the others stared in shock, then their faces lit up with wild joy. Their morale surged instantly, and they launched fierce counterattacks one after another.

Just then, a small head peeked through the suffocating smoke. “Madam, do you need any help?” someone asked timidly. I forced my eyes open and saw a young boy who was about the same age as my son. He was covered in ash and dirt, but his eyes shone brightly through the smoke. He was so small in size, yet he managed to muster the strength to help me up. Then, together, we slowly made our way outside. The path to the outside was incredibly challenging, and I felt like giving up several times.

I was stupid to think he liked me this whole time. “Yes, they are all Grants men” Zac confirmed. Phillip started screaming so I glanced over to see that Grace was carving something into this chest. I was intrigued so walked closer so I could read it. PIG was now carved on his chest in big letters. “I am not a big swearer” She giggled. “No, it suits him” I smirked as I put my cigarette out on his nipple. “Want one?” I asked as I lit another taking a deep drag.
