As Dustin turned with relief cresting on his face, Tamara’s cold gaze snaked across the carnage, stopping when she noticed me. I wasn’t sure how I knew she was looking at me but somehow, I knew. Her cracked lips tugged up in a grin, but somehow the expression made her look even more monstrous than the beast she sat atop.
Dismissing Dustin and Atlas as though they had been nothing more than irritating flies buzzing in her ear, she turned the beast in my direction and spurred it into a run. Its feet thundered against the ground, making it tremble.
