he announced calmly. For a moment, the room seemed to tilt. Under the CEO. My mind instantly went blank. I felt nauseous. Across the room, Alex remained completely expressionless. Not surprised. Not impressed. Just still. Joyce added gently, “You will assist with advanced development projects and internal systems.” My throat felt dry. “Yes… ma’am.” Mr. Crawford clasped his hands together. “All three of you will begin your internship tomorrow morning at eight.” He smiled faintly. “Welcome to LexTech.” With that, he walked back to his chair.

Chloe and Mia called to show me the view of the countryside. Soon enough, I forgot the scene with my uncle and got immersed in their talks when my phone chimed with a new email. The moment I opened it, excitement shot through me. “Guys, my internship placement just came in!” I squealed. “No way! Where did you get posted to?” Chloe asked eagerly. I scanned the email quickly. “It says I'm assigned to the Aurora Corpor..” My breath caught in my throat. “… isn't that the huge ass marketing company?”

she asked. “I’ll explain another time. Please.” I was getting impatient. I could hear rustling on the other end, bedsheets falling, a soft groan, followed by the sound of a keyboard. “Uh… last I heard she got into Lucenti PR Group. She started interning there this month.” “Thank you,” I muttered, and hung up. My hands were already gripping the steering wheel before the line went dead.

The seventh semester meant everyone was scrambling for something to put on their résumé. G****e. Startups. Research labs. The guy two seats ahead of me was bragging about a small fintech internship downtown, “I’ll probably convert it into full-time,” he was saying loudly. Someone behind me snorted, “Dude, it’s unpaid.” He shrugged, “Still better than nothing.” I kept my eyes on my notebook. The door opened and Professor Adler walked in with a stack of printed papers under his arm. “Morning, everyone,” he said.

After a slight pause, she confirms her identity, saying, "Yes, it's me." The voice on the other end of the line proceeds to inquire if Audrey has applied to Frankinson and Co., the company that had caught Kalix's attention earlier. Audrey nods to herself, confirming once again, "Yes, I have." The person on the other end informs her that she has been granted an interview with a senior member of the company, scheduled for ten o'clock in the morning.

– Rick asked confused. - That's it, I think we need to hire three or four people, as if they were just regular hires, but highly trustworthy people capable of conducting an independent audit, who would enter the departments as spies, let's call it, without anyone knowing that they are there to audit. And they can blend in, monitor the day-to-day activities and come to the office in the early hours of the morning and audit freely. Alessandro and Patrício looked at each other as if they understood my suggestion. And then my boss said:

Anything could have happened. But despite all this, I still won't let my parents know about him. I want to see how far he can continue with this. Besides, I'll be leaving Australia in a few days. I'll be travelling to New York or LA for my internship. Once I'm gone, he'll have no choice but to find something else he can obsess over. ... "Yessss! I got posted to Florida." Abby screams as she reads through her call-up letter. My girls and I are standing in the parking lot, reading through our internship call-up letters.

she whispers. “Just hold it,” he snaps, quickening and widening his strides to the elevator. Daddy issues… “Thanks for this,” I say, hoping to break the tension. As we get to my car, he finally speaks up again. “For our summer interns, we usually offer a yearlong internship in partnership with Marie’s Soups. Interns learn the legal side of charity, they develop organizational skills, and they even get an automatic interview for a job in the corporate office. There’s an opportunity to—”

I wished I could go back in the past and knock some sense into my naive, overly sympathetic past self! Three months ago, when she first started her internship, I worried every single day about her sales numbers. I worried about her sales technique. I even helped her map out the key points for her professional certification exams multiple times! It turned out that she was nothing but an ungrateful snake who could never be satisfied! The viewership of Vivian’s livestream skyrocketed, eventually ranking number one on the social trends list. In less than half an hour, I received a call from corporate headquarters regarding an investigation.

The kind of company students dream about getting into. My sleepy expression disappears instantly. “No way,” I say. “Yes way.” Anita laughs softly. “And listen to this.” She points at the screen dramatically. “They’re paying interns twelve dollars per hour.” My eyes widen immediately. “Twelve?” “That’s what I said too.” I quickly take the tablet from her hands and begin scanning through the information on the screen carefully. The internship description alone makes my chest tighten with excitement. AI development support. Software testing. Data analysis assistance. Remote flexibility. Flexible hours. Everything about it sounds perfect.
