Audio Books At The Library Novels & Stories

It was supposed to be used only in the day time by special students who couldn’t use the public library for a valid reason. When Anthony started visiting the mini library at night, he used to tip the librarian. But very soon, there was no need to do so because, they were the same. Anthony usually went to the mini library to read supernatural books–especially, books about werewolves. He held his textbook closely so that whenever anyone came close, he would quickly replace it. Not like anyone would suspect him to be a werewolf just because he was reading such books but, he was scared. The day the librarian caught him, he began to stammer.

Maya asked. "Of course," Lora said. "The library is fully accessible." Maya spent forty minutes in the library, running her fingers along shelves of books that ranged from ancient leather-bound volumes in languages she didn't recognize to modern first editions she'd have killed to own. She pulled several out, examined them, put them back with the careful reverence of someone who genuinely loved books. Eventually, Lora had gently mentioned continuing the tour, and Maya had reluctantly left the library with a mental list of volumes she intended to come back for.

“Except for the new Nesmir Christie book, they did.” “Darn it, that book is the one we need to boost our new membership drive.” Her boss sounded aggrieved. “We did get the new books by Devlin Geris and John Rood.” She held up a copy each of the two writers whom she considered among the best in the business. “Hm, I suppose those will have to do.” Hamby shrugged indifferently. “We could get them to do a reading here at the library...” Doris looked at her boss expectantly. “Or at least one of them, John Rood maybe... ”

It's still an odd feeling but I think I’m getting used to it. “How is she?” Athena asks. “She cried herself to sleep watching A Walk to Remember.” I tell her. Rhea sighs. “That’s no good. She dies in the end.” “Yeah, so I’ve heard and apparently the book was worse. I don’t remember seeing her reading it.” Rhea cringes and fidgets nervously. “I may have gifted the audio book to her.” Of course, she did. My sisters are just as bad as me when it comes to spoiling Lilly and Blue. So, if Blue mentioned the book my sister would buy it even if Blue didn’t ask. Just mentioning it would be enough, and clearly that’s what happened here.

I’ve never heard of it. I’m not much of a reader of books. I’m too distractible. When the money started to come in from the farmers’ market, I got into audiobooks, though. The sound doesn’t exactly drown out the pecking voice, but I can kind of focus on the narrator, and it really helps the day go by better.

I step aside. I follow him as we stroll down the library’s hall. It’s huge. He points out each section from the classics, fiction, non-fiction to volumes of economy and business books. Honestly, I enjoy listening to his voice. He sounds so soothing. We stop at one particularly tall shelf in the left-end corner.

“Before you decide to give up on the story, you should read the next two books in the series.” “Where did you get those from?” Jo asked quietly as she looked at the small stack of books. “Probably the same place that you got that one. Little library up on the second floor.” “Yeah.” She admitted and gave a little blush. “That’s my library.” “I thought that it might be Shelby’s book.” “Nope. Shell is a card-carrying member of the audiobook and podcast book club. I’m pretty sure that if she had to actually read something not for school, she’d probably burst into flames.”

I spent three more minutes getting back in. Sleep didn’t happen. The house was too quiet. Too big. Too full of space where sound should’ve been. At 2 AM I gave up and explored instead. The library was exactly as enormous as I expected. Books floor to ceiling with one of those rolling ladders, and here’s the thing, the spines were creased. These books had been read. Some of them were shoved in sideways because whoever organized them ran out of space and just kept going. He reads, I thought. Of course he does. Because he couldn’t just be terrifying. He had to be terrifying and well-read.

I stopped at the library door and smiled to myself. ‘Books are better than people. Books don’t hate on you for something you didn’t do.’ I pushed the door open and breathed in the wonderful smell of books. ‘Paradise.’ I strolled to the shelves and scanned through the books, reading their names off their spines. ‘It seems Dante wasn’t joking when he said half of his library was filled horrors.’ A book caught my eye, and I pulled it from the others. “Bone and Souls by B. Brian.” I read the name aloud and skimmed through the description behind it. “This seems interesting.”

The radio crackled to life with a muffled burst. "Repeat?" she said. There was silence, then a single word: "Return." She wrote it down instinctively. It wasn't an order—it was an offer. She scribbled a line underneath the timestamp: Clause Fifty-Six (draft): Listening brings us back to where something once asked to be heard. --- 11:12 AM — Library Ruins, Sector Four Covered by tarpaulins, rescued books had been piled by subject. A group sorted them by community demand—health, irrigation, construction, storybooks.
