"I have this novel I'm reading. It's about a woman's journey to battle depression for almost ten years. Her story is almost similar to mine. I've read four chapters over the week, and I have to read one more to complete my task. It's really motivational," I said, holding it. "Let's read it together," Dylan offered. I smiled and gave him the novel. He held it in a position that allowed us both to read the words. At first, we read in silence, and then he started reading audibly. I loved it.

I hadn't read the book since he brought it because I'd read it before. But that was years ago. I didn't mind reading it again. He nodded, "Alright. Let's go with that. It's been a long time since I read that." He relaxed more into the chair before looking at me where I still stood. “Come, sit. Make yourself comfortable,” he said, with amusement in his voice. I rolled my eyes and moved to sit on the edge of the bed. I arranged myself so I could read easily. As I opened the book and began to read, Ronan kept his eyes on me. My voice filled the room. I began narrating the adventures of the brave rabbits. Ronan listened attentively.

"He can come back." *** After breakfast, Ava drags me to her room for story time. She hands me the dragon book, settles against my side like she's done this a hundred times before. The weight of her small body against mine does something unexpected. Makes this feel real in ways board meetings and coffee deliveries never could. I read with character voices. Deep dragon voice. High princess voice. She giggles at all the right parts, corrects my pronunciation of one word, and asks me to read it again when I finish.

Her voice, gentle and soothing, brought the words to life as she read aloud. Alero's story, a testament to bravery in the face of adversity, flowed from the pages like a balm to Thane's battered soul. River watched as his gaze, initially fixed on the ground, began to shift. His ears, almost imperceptibly, perked up, and his eyes flickered with interest. Though his expression remained stoic, River sensed the slightest crack in his armor.

I wanted to be enraged but I didn't understand how to feel about a book laughing at me. After what seemed like forever, the book stopped and laid back on the table. "'What is the secret word?"' the book said, with traces of laughter in its voice. I didn't have time for the book's games. I had less than 30 hours to train and prepare myself for the challenge. The book wasn't helping matters. I said the next thing that came to my mind. "Alizon. The gem of Alizon." The book kept quiet then flipped its pages open. It stopped at one and words began to appear on them. Once that was done, a mist of glow came out from the book.

Animals!” He set her on the floor and picked up the book. His voice changed, softer, gentler, as he read. He made different voices for each animal—the elephant’s deep trumpet, the monkey’s high chatter. Alice howled with laughter at the monkey, clapping her little hands. I stepped closer, drawn in despite myself. “You’re really good at that,” I said quietly.

Stuffed animals lined the shelves, their button eyes twinkling mischievously. Theo's small hands eagerly reached for a stack of picture books, their pages adorned with whimsical illustrations. Hazel's voice carried a melody of excitement and anticipation as she read aloud, bringing the characters to life. Theo's eyes widened with each turn of the page, his imagination taking flight. As the story unfolded, Hazel's voice rose and fell, painting vivid pictures in their minds. I sigh as I crawl under the thick quilt, flicking on the lamo beside me as I pull out my latest find at Barnes and Nobels: The Winter Garden by the famous Kristin Hannah. This woman's books are truly amazing. Then, after an hour long reading session, I find my eyes beginning to shut against my will, so I set down the book on the bedside table and shut off the lamp. ~ The next morning...
