STRANGER ATTRACTION
Night with Horris was something all three of us eagerly looked forward to. Sometimes we even wished it could stay night forever. It felt as if the world belonged only to us when darkness came. Everyone thought we slept, but most nights we did not. We stayed awake talking, laughing, and making plans that were bigger than Ashwood.
Horris would sometimes sit up dramatically, clear his throat, and say,
“Alright, listen, both of you. Here is the plan. I will marry Kayla, we will have twenty children, maybe twenty-five if we are not tired.”
