The first set of Barbie dolls my aunt Esmee got for me, I beheaded every one of them and set them ablaze, laughing maniacally as I watched them burn. I was only four. The first movie I ever watched was of a deranged killer who murdered an entire family with a bloody axe. I was only eight. My mom thought I needed help and took me to a therapist. Ten minutes into the session, the poor therapist discharged me, telling my mom to take me to a 'psychiatrist' instead. I still laugh whenever I remember how embarrassed my mom had been. By now her hair is more white than black, and it is pulled back in her usual tight bun. “Tea and freshly baked cookies”. She sets the tray down and looks curiously at Skye. “She is awfully young sir”. “An old woman is not going to give me an heir, is she now Mrs Barny ?”

“But if you’d like to feed me, I am hungry.” Mom makes us dinner and we sit in the living room eating and talking. She barely touches her food, and I feel bad for telling her. But I know it’s best that we don’t have that between us when I’m gone. I may not make it home to visit a lot, and I want her to know that I love her in spite of anything that has happened in the past. While Mom explains what happened, her eyes remain distant. “I met your dad in a bar, of all places. I was picking up a coworker who needed a ride because she’d had too much to drink. “Alice, I know you are my Alice.” Mrs. Barney roared between happiness and sadness over their long loss. She hugged Fay tightly as if she was afraid she would slip away again. Fay felt her breath catch. She looked up at Mr. Barney who stood behind his wife, asking for an explanation even though there was no need for one at the moment. Shopia’s hugs and tears had already provided more answers than anything else. Eaton Barney nodded in agreement. “Congratulations Mommy, you’ve found your real mom and dad.” Mike couldn’t help but say something. He slowly turned around to stare at his children. "The only person who gave a damn about me was my doctor - your grandma Anne until I met your mom who hated my guts at first..." Zaphire stuck out her middle finger at Jessy and told her she was going to win this again. Earlier that evening, the four girls had decided to go Rimbo's, a local bar just around the corner where Clara lived. It was a very basic bar with relaxed music, somewhere you could hear the person next to you talk. It was a large space but there was no loudness like the other bars across the streets. Clara and Maya leaned against the beer pong table and watched them in amusement. "I bet on Zaphire," Maya called dibs. "Hey, I was going to bet on her too!" Clara pushed Maya's arm in a playful manner.

She sounded urgent. "Hurry up and come to the hospital now! Your mom just fainted!" Mom was already awake by the time I got to the hospital. She leaned back in bed, her face pale, an IV drip in the back of her hand. She scoffed when she was me walk in and turned her head to the side. "What are you still doing here? I don't have a disobedient daughter like you." "What are you saying, Holly!" Aunt Heidi exclaimed, trying to calm her down. She then pulled me to sit.
