There were three: one tall, dark, and would-be handsome (had he not been a murderous blood-sucker); one was short and stout and round, and I wondered how his pot belly and balding head helped him in acquiring a regular blood supply; the other was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, slim and dark, with a perfectly coifed afro and narrowed green eyes – save for the blood smeared around her sensually curved mouth.

The vampire’s eyes flicker to it, and I see the fear in his gaze before he can hide it. He knows what it is. “Don’t you dare,” he growls, his voice low and threatening. But it’s too late. I focus all my energy into the artifact, my aura, pouring everything I have into it. The world around me seems to bend and twist as the power surges, crackling with energy. A sharp, blinding light erupts from the artifact, engulfing everything. The vampire screams in agony, his body convulsing as the light sears him. I feel the intense heat of it, but I don’t flinch.
