He grabbed the wheel with both hands, but it was too late. Panic filled him as the Prius swished back and forth, and in his frenzy he slammed on the brakes. The car shuddered and slowed just for a moment, then the steering wheel jerked to the right, the guardrail looming in the car’s headlights. Gavin twisted the wheel one last time . . . a heartbeat a breath impact screeching metal, roaring engine, him screaming His forehead slammed into the air bag exploding from the steering wheel. The world spun away into darkness and as he struggled on the edge of unconsciousness, he realized dimly he’d ricocheted off the guardrail and was now spinning across the highway toward the median.

I feel my breath quicken and my vision blur. I try to focus, but I can already feel the edges of my consciousness starting to fade. “I just want this to stop,” I murmur. The spinning world around me blurs, and I brace myself against the cold floor, but it’s too late. I feel myself slipping away. “Caleb...”

I hope I'm just too fuzzy to get things right. "I know, and you are doing so well," I say, and he flashes me a small smile. "You are...." I trail off. My breath gets stuck in my throat. My eyelids are now starting to droop and my breathing is getting deeper, heavier. I can feel myself slowly starting to slip into unconsciousness. This is it, I think to myself. Max is speaking to me, but his voice sounds like it's coming from far away. The world splits into two and one starts to seem more like a reflection of the other. My head goes quiet and a loud beep sounds in my ear. It's like my brain giving me a countdown before my body shuts down and loses consciousness. My eyes start flickering and the beep becomes louder, more insistent, I know that I'm going to drop in less than a minute. Max is still speaking, but I can't hear anything he is saying. I subtly angle my body so that when I fall, I fall backwards towards the chair.

My vision went black. The last thing I heard before slipping completely into unconsciousness was a ragged whisper. "Don't worry... I won't let anything happen to you. My Angel."

As the pain becomes so horrible that the world starts spinning, I can feel his arms around me as I fall sideways, unable to keep myself upright. “Someone call the medic!” Is the last thing I hear before I completely loose consciousness.

I tried to turn, to grab whoever was behind me, but my body wouldn’t listen. The world tilted. My vision blurred. My knees hit the floor with a dull thud. The grip tightened once more, and then—nothing. The lights went out. As consciousness slipped away, I caught a flicker of movement—shadows shifting, a silhouette I almost recognized. The last thought that crossed my mind before the dark swallowed me whole was that this wasn’t supposed to happen. Someone had beaten me to her.

I cannot end like this… I cannot. I am plunged into a coliseum of black colours. Darkness swirls around me, thick and suffocating. I totally lose all sense of myself… completely. The last thing I vividly remember before I black out is being lifted up gently and carried up some stairs. The feel of strong arms beneath me anchors me as consciousness slips away. For the first time since the attack, I feel a tiny bit of safety… oh, just a tiny hint of it.

My last attempt for help was done but I was sure no one is going to find me. I m hardly breathing and I m out of breath. I m suffocated but I can’t help myself. Everything around me is blurry and I m seeing hallucinations around me before my last breath. Someone coming for help, swimming towards me. It was not so clear but he was someone familiar and then before I remember him, my mind and eyes went unconscious. Goodbye, Everyone.
