I have a feeling this isn’t food. I twist the single manacle I’m left wearing on my right hand as I near the door, worried about messing up my plan by opening it and whoever’s behind it locking it tight again, like Declan failed to do. I make a snap decision and stuff a book as far as I can beneath the left door, knowing the right side is always the one that swings open. If the door remains unlevel, it won’t lock properly. At least, I’m praying that’s the case. I listen as keys jingle on the other side of the door and stand back, my heart hammering.

Taking one last look behind me, and finding no one has entered the room, I hurry over and take the book off the shelf. I’m rewarded with a strange noise that startles me at first even though I’m half expecting it—the door opens. It’s only open a crack, so I put my fingers in and pull it just enough to slide through. Luckily, there’s a handle on the inside of the door, so I pull it all the way closed behind me.

I couldn’t be more stunned to see it disappear right into the book with no trace of his blood on it before he puts his hand down. The sound of a door creaking catches my attention, and at the same time, there is Garrett who moves back. I suddenly see the supposed shelf folding together as the creaking sound continues. Eventually, the shelf of books has been put aside to reveal a sort of door which had a polished color. I was amazed by the quality of the door which has a lot of inscriptions on it, making me wonder how much work was put into it to make it work. “There goes the second barrier. Irene opened the door to her room, she saw her husband lying on the bed sleeping, as she was pacing around contemplating whether to ask him about the anniversary party or not, but how would she tell him who told her? She doesn't want the party or anyone in the house or someone to find out about her secret affair, she doesn't want an intruder in the house. She needs to find a way to stop the party.

I said. “Why? It isn't closing hours yet,” She replied adamantly. “I said we're done,” I replied sternly, then she stood and packed up the files, as she shoved them back into their shelves, picked up her bag and car key, and she walked out, without even saying goodbye. “Rude brat." I cursed under my breath. Confirming she had left, I stood up and walked over to the wall, pressed a button, and the wall divided into two, making way for me to go into my secret lodge.

Darius and Astrid managed to sneak out of the dining hall, while their parents talked and laughed together. Darius stopped in front of his play room and turned to Astrid. “You can’t tell anyone about this.” He told her. “Who would I tell?” She shrugged, highly curious to know what would happen behind the door. He opened the door and let her walk in first. Cautiously, Astrid entered the room and frowned. “This is where you torture women.” She said like it was a major discovery. It was, at least to her.

However, Max had claimed he would be spending late nights with industry leaders, and it might be awkward for me to share a room. Since the main hotel was fully booked, I reluctantly went to another one, even though it was inconvenient and almost made me late for the event. Thinking back clearly, what kind of idiot would deliberately book two people from the same company in different hotels? It had all been part of her scheme. Alas, I was stupid enough to believe Max's excuse about needing to have late-night discussions with industry leaders. It was almost laughable.

"Shut those damn doors!" And I heard the doors closing behind me.

"It seems you're finally starting to understand your place. You can go. I need to call my Dam-Dam and tell him about my progress." She waved her hand, dismissing me like a servant. I stood without a word and walked out of the office. The moment the door clicked shut, the mask of the broken girl fell away. What was left was a predator's calm. Cold. Patient. That evening, in the deep twilight, one of Julian's men was waiting. He was crouched among the roses in the garden just below my window, perfectly still. A shadow in the shadows. I went to my vanity and took out a burner SIM card.
