I turn on my phone and I’m scrolling my contacts. I found Ben’s number and call him “It’s ringing!” I say. Lena points her eyes to mine and smiles “Hey It’s Ben… please leave a message when you hear, Beeb!” The voicemail says. “Jeez!” I mumble. “What’s wrong?” Lena says. “I don’t think he wants to talk to me anymore,” I say as I highly sigh. “Try again!” Lena says. “Alright…alright!” I say as I call Ben’s number once again. “Still a voicemail,” I say. “Well... you tried!” Lena sighs as she strokes my hand.

Can I hear his heartbeat, faintly, or is that someone else’s? “Ben, please, come back to me,” I repeat over and over again. “Please!” It seems like forever passes before I hear the sound I’ve been waiting for. Ben gasps deeply, like he’s just come up from being underwater, and he even tries to sit up. Mystica won’t let him, though. “What happened?” he asks, looking around. He sees my face, and I see a bit of relief wash over him that I'm here. “You died,” she tells him.

It's good to know something will listen to me tonight. Ben picked up on the first ring. He no longer sounds groggy, but sharp and focused. He also sounds pissed as hell. "Where the hell is she?" I demand as I pull onto the main road out of this crazy farmland, hoping I'm heading in the right direction.

Ben looked down at Caroline's fingers which began to move slightly. Then, once again, Caroline's fingers moved faintly. Ben's heart beat faster. Ben immediately stood up and turned towards the door. He wanted to make sure this wasn't a hallucination. However, as he was about to move, he hesitated. He looked down again and watched Caroline's face carefully. Her eyelids seemed to move slightly, although they were still not fully open. "Honey, I'm here. If you can hear me, try moving your finger one more time," Ben said, hoping Caroline would respond.

Haley shouted. "What?" "DO IT!" Ben fumbled with his wrist controls. "Pairing! Pairing! Connected!" Haley hit ENTER. CLICK. A sound cut through the humid, heavy air of the jungle. It wasn't a siren. It wasn't a gunshot. It was a laugh. A soft, melodic, slightly husky laugh. "Okay, tell me again," a female voice said through Ben’s external speakers. The audio quality was grainy, recorded on a phone in a windy place. "Tell me what you're going to do when we get out."
