His thumb pressed small, steady circles into my palm, as if his fingers were trying to smooth out the tremors still running beneath my skin.
I leaned back in the seat, my eyes fluttering shut for a second, just letting the silence stretch between us.
And then I heard it.
Beep.
Soft. Faint. Almost like a whisper.
I opened my eyes, frowning.
“Did you hear that?” I asked, turning to Ricardo.
He paused. “Hear what?”
Beep.
There it was again. Louder this time. Like it was closer.
Ricardo stiffened instantly.
But then he blinked, shook his head slightly, and said, “Nah… I didn’t hear anything.”
