They were covered with bud-shaped lamp shades, and at the foot of the bed stood two round floor lamps pressed against the wall. If one ignored the carpets, murals, and various decorative dolls and vases, and looked only at the lights, their abstract arrangement seemed to form the shape of a seated person. My bed and the doll's bed were positioned in the middle. Its bed was placed horizontally, facing the head of my bed.

I step away from the window with a sigh and turn on my heels, letting my gaze sweep over the fairly large bedroom. Aside from natural luminance, it is lit dimly by two tall lamps which stand by either corners of the door, the lampshade is a milky white and decorated with swirling undulating patterns of gold. Its once shiny lustre all but lost and hidden behind a thin coat of dust. The color scheme of this room gives it a soft, tranquil vibe; a simple cream with an occasional heathered shade of lilac thrown into the mix as seen in the case of the upholstered stool tucked into the vanity table and the bedcover.

The drawers are jammed with underwear: panties, bras, stockings. What else? The bedside tables... A pair of lamps. A plastic tumbler and a bottle of sparkling water. A clock. A radio. I slide open a drawer: hairbrush. A bottle of paracetamol. Tissues... At the back, a book. 'Poisonous and Psychoactive Plants: a Handbook.' Interesting choice of bedtime reading... I slide the drawer closed again. Something's pulling at me. Something missing. I can't put my finger on it.

The walls are painted a deep shade of navy blue, and the floors are made of polished hardwood. In the center of the room is a king-sized bed with crisp white sheets and fluffy pillows. It's my sanctuary, the place where I retreat to when the world becomes too overwhelming. Beside the bed is a matching set of nightstands, each with a lamp and a stack of books. Against one wall is a massive bookshelf, filled to the brim with leather-bound tomes and old manuscripts. His books are also arrange on the mini shelf beside his table. His bed is covered with a grey duvet and his bedside table contains a lampshade, sanitizers and a picture frame of him and a very beautiful lady. To the right was another window, but this one was fairly empty, with nothing but plants in front of it.

He didn't get nightmares. Damon switch on the reading lamp by his armchair flickered to life with a soft orange glow. He decided a bit of light reading might help him get back off to sleep. So he sat in the armchair, fidgeting slightly so that the cushion sat just right against the small of his back and picked up a forgotten book lying on the side table beside him. I relished so many foods that I ended up eating more than my stomach could handle. I felt stuffed while walking to my bedroom. A small nightlight shaped like a rocket ship glowed in the corner. "Mummy, can you read me a story?" Bernard asked, his big eyes looking up at her hopefully. She smiled and brushed his hair back. "Of course, sweetheart. Which one?" "The one about the brave knight!" Mrs. Harrington reached for the book on the nightstand and began reading. Her voice was soft and soothing, painting pictures of castles and dragons in the boy's imagination. Within minutes, Bernard's eyelids grew heavy, and soon he was fast asleep. She kissed his forehead gently, turned off the main light, and stepped out of the room, closing the door quietly behind her.
