I have the same eyes, the same jawline, and the same tiny scar on my left brow from when I tripped as a child. I had seen myself—alive, breathing—but not quite me. And she had seen me first. The thought clawed at me as I forced my feet to move. I turned away, stumbling down the street, water splashing around my ankles. Each step felt unsteady, as if the ground had shifted beneath me. The storm blurred the city into smears of light and shadow. People hurried past, faces hidden beneath umbrellas, but none of that mattered. I was somewhere else entirely. Her gaze followed me.

Elena couldn't move. She stood beneath the endless silver sky, staring at the crack that had appeared above them. Something was looking through it. She couldn't see its entire form. Only two enormous eyes. Dark. Ancient. Watching. Adrian stepped closer to her. “Elena, don't look at it.” She tore her gaze away. “What is that?” Her mother didn't answer. “Mom?” Her mother looked terrified. “I don't know.” “You said something was beyond this world.”

Not Ronan. Something else. “She cannot save you.” Lyra heard the voice. It wasn't coming from Ronan. It was coming from the space behind him. The darkness itself. The thing beyond the Gate. The cracks became enormous. Now they stretched from one side of the horizon to the other. The world seemed smaller beneath them. Then Something appeared. A single eye. Far beyond the sky. It was black. Not dark. Not shadowed. Black. As though someone had cut a hole through existence itself. The eye blinked. The stars nearest it vanished. Gone. Simply… gone. The dragons recoiled. The dead Dragon Kings stepped backward. Even the Sleepless One screamed. “NO!” The black eye turned.

An enormous eye. Evelyn felt the universe tremble. The First Dream fell to her knees. Hope couldn't breathe. David whispered: "No." Evelyn looked at him. "You know it." David nodded. "I've seen it." The sky broke. Not cracked. Not shattered. It simply ceased to behave like a sky. Above the sanctuary, beyond the ruined ceiling, reality folded back like a curtain. Stars vanished. Clouds disappeared. The heavens themselves seemed to peel away. And behind them— An eye opened. The entire world froze. Every guardian. Every Sovereign. Every living soul beneath that impossible gaze. The eye was so vast that it eclipsed the horizon. Yet somehow it didn't belong to any physical creature.

I think I'm going to stay for just two days at this school. I was about riding off when my eye caught a passenger in the front of the bus. the only passenger there actually. Her head was leaned on the window and her eyes were closed but I could tell she wasn't sleeping cause she kept smiling and scrunching her nose and I could have sworn I saw her pout her lips for a split second.
