A Biased Mother

My eyes stung. Seth, who wasn't related to me in any way, felt such grief and injustice on my behalf, while my own parents, upon learning of my death, had shown nothing but indifference.
But Mom seemed deaf to Seth's words. She walked toward my body, and when she saw my mangled remains, she slowly reached out her trembling hand.
Due to the heat and exposure in the wilderness, my body had been scavenged by unknown animals, revealing glimpses of bone. The wounds had long since begun to rot, emitting a foul odor.
I turned my head away, unwilling to look at the wretched state of my body after death.
But Mom seemed oblivious to my wounds. Her shaking fingertips brushed my cheek.
