I turned off the TV and rolled my wheelchair to the window. I thought of that last scene before I blacked out. Aurora, lying nearby, pale as a sheet, still using her last breath to say, "Let me go." That was when I finally understood what real heartbreak felt like. Outside was nothing but ruins. The once-beautiful estate had been burned to ashes in that fire. Ring! The phone rang. "Mr. Damian Blackwood, your custom ring is ready. When will you be picking it up?"

Such a little smarty-pants. I start telling her the tale of "Goldie Locks and Three Bears." Of course, she questioned every aspect of the story from how the bears could build and own a house in the woods. To how are they can cook. I barely get to the part where Goldie Locks is discovered sleeping by the bears when Brixtius returns with items I requested.

Even so, I still grab that colorful one before reading the title on the cover. “Big Magic. Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert.” I nod my head. “Is this even a good read?” I talked to myself once again and start walking back towards the chair for me to sit on. I skim through the pages and concluded that these are new since it smells like bookstore. A flash of memory then flash inside my mind and concluded right after. “Maybe this is one of the books he bought last Saturday?” That day when we saw each other inside that stall but he automatically look away and ignored my whole existence.

When she came back, she found Cela sitting beside a big balikbayan box looking disappointed. "You found them," Nanny Rita said. "So they bought a lot of copies of my book," Cela said in a dismayed tone. "They were very supportive especially your mother," Nanny Rita explained. "How about the second book?" Cela asked. Nanny Rita sighed. She knows her too well so she's careful with her words. "I am not sure if your brother already ordered but he has plans," she answered. Cela remains disappointed.

It’s strange twisting branches are now visible, swiftly moving with the wind. The woman was in awe. She then glanced at the animals that surrounded her. In an instant, her jaw dropped, witnessing the unusual features of every animal. One had four eyes, while others had flowers growing from their antlers. The critters on the woman’s lap moved, softly bumping their scarlet nose against her. Their gem-like eyes widened as their irises dilated in excitement. The woman responded to them, carefully caressing their faces. As she bowed down to meet the critters’ gaze, strands of her hair got loose from the back of her ear. Promptly, the waves bounced. Revealing its bright red hue.

“Anyone would have missed that because it is insignificant, but not you, Haylee.” Liya was right. The book was shoved behind two giant books, and its front cover had been ripped off. I held Jodie with one arm, stretching the other to get the book off the shelf. My eyes squinted as I tried to read the words on the first page. “Cursed in Crimson: The Tale of Ancient Red Wolves,” I read under my breath. Flavia heard me and stepped towards me with about five books in her hands. She etched, “Interesting. That might help us with solving the mystery around Elder Calvin’s death.”

The next time they do this, someone’s going to get it. Ash, Gray, and Jade were on the floor, already snoring in the blankets. The day had been long, especially for Ash, and they deserve the sleep. Blue was still reading a book. He was leaning against Mexi’s aquarium and every second, he would lift his eyes up from his book to look at her. The book he was reading was about reptiles. My sisters and I jumped on the bed, all of us squeezed together on my mattress. And Red, who was settled on the floor with the kids, stood up and squeezed himself by our feet. That was when the questions started. I was in the hot seat.

Surprisingly, I don't find the idea disturbing. Feeling boredom as it sets in quickly, I make my way over to the bookshelf. I start to peruse the titles and am shocked at what I find. I see the House of Night Series, The Twilight Series, Forbidden Knowledge, Harry Potter Trilogy, and various books on Military Protocols all with black covers. The books are all in good condition too. Not interested in any of the military books I reach for the first book in the House of Night Series. As I take the book over to the couch to settle in, the door swings open.

My bedroom was messed up and I couldn't think straight when everything was trashy around me. Colliding on a comfortable couch, l opened up the book and began reading it. The pages were coming to my hand as the glue wasn't that strong but either way, Bane did a good job fixing it. The writing inside the book were mainly stories, non-fiction, about the horrible events that happened in the eighteenth century. "Is written by someone from the Redwood bloodline," I mumbled as Isreal’s shadow appeared at the corner of my eyes. "Do you know him? Simon don?"

’’ he asked but I had no idea what he was referring to so I decided to ask him. ‘’how do you mean?’’ I asked him and I felt a shiver run down my spine as I looked around the room. This wasn't just a dirty house, it was a disaster zone. Dominic glanced around the room, taking in the destruction. "We need to find that red book," he said, his voice tense. "What red book?" I asked, trying to keep the fear out of my voice. There was no way we could find any book in a house that was dirty. It made me want to throw up as I felt nauseous.
