“He’s… he’s not mine.”
“Oh for fuck’s sake—”
He screamed like a child as the dog feinted, snapping its teeth just inches from his face. Then he rolled and shoved to his feet, sprinting after his friends as fast as he could with a limp, screaming that he’d been bitten.
I stood there, gaping, heart slamming against my ribs as the dog didn’t run after the guy, but stayed in his defensive position, head lower than his shoulders, glaring after him.
Neither of us moved for several seconds. I could hear the footsteps of the guys fading, the screams of the injured one turning into pleading cries. But all of it getting quieter as they ran further and further away.
