Kas’s POV “Are you sure about this?” My wolf Elexis asks when the timer on the oven goes off. “Absolutely.” I say confidently. “I refuse to be a prisoner in our own home, Lex.” I pull the cupcakes out of the oven. Carrot cake caramel. I’ve been experimenting to perfect the recipe for my bakery for weeks so we can add it to the fall menu. The little browned mounds of cake finally look perfect and smell like heaven. I set them on the cooling rack and make a few notes in my notebook before I go get a shower.

“How?” “It wasn’t easy getting those either,” Maleek said with a grin. “That doesn’t explain how,” she said quietly. “You have always talked about making a cake like that. I figured that you were going to try for your finals, but like you always do, you would chicken out because you are still unsure of the flavors melding together. This way, you can try it out well in advance to see which pair up well and which don’t. Cooking is like a science experiment. You can do everything right, but it can still fail. Now you have all but one of the ingredients to make the best cake those teachers and judges have ever had.” Maleek said with his grin growing.

Laughing, she poked his head once more. Eva had to admit that her mood cheered up significantly when the children were with her. She went into the kitchen with Max, and they started making a cake. She chose to make Max’s favorite Black Forest cake. She heated up the oven and began melting the chocolate. The sweet smell instantly filled the air in Thriving Dragon Bay. Max’s eyes lit up when he saw the cake slowly form in Eva’s hands. He could not help drooling. While Eva was focused on putting cream onto the cake, she heard an adorable voice coming from the kitchen door.

“Please sit down and have some tea.” Edward directed Sebastian to the sofa and poured him a cup of tea. He poured one for himself and looked over at the imposing cake. Anna, the cook, had gone all out when she heard that Prince Sebastian would be eating her cake. It was a five tier chocolate cake decorated with perfect swirls of vanilla frosting. Normally Anna’s cakes weren’t more than three tiers. He cut Sebastian a thin slice and did the same for himself. Hopefully the cake wouldn’t be too sickly with two extra layers.

The moment was electric. “Alright, Mrs. Blackwood,” Mrs. Williams said brightly, guiding Katherina to the cake. “One big cut, and the secret will be revealed!” The knife cut through the cake, and the secret was revealed pink and Purple. Katherina froze, staring at the cake in disbelief. Her hands trembled. “No… no… this can’t be right,” she whispered, voice tight.
