My voice echoed around the room and I heard the dragon’s low chuckle. He emerged from the shadows and suddenly we were outside, in the open with the dark night sky above us. His eyes had a murderous glint in them and I watched his spiked tail. The dragon was gray, like mine and I almost felt sorry for the illusion. I ran straight toward him and he moved his body sideways as his tail swept across the ground and lifted at the last second to strike me full in the chest. I was on his tail and ran up towards his back as his tail swished around and he turned his head to get a look at me.

a dark voice rumbled out. A shadow stepped out from in between the two pillars. The top of the shadow touched the tip of the stones showing just how big the thing was. The owner stepped forward into the light of the moon. It was a man, an extremely dark man. Not in skin tone, his skin was bordering on translucent with the white hue of his scales. It was the aura that I sensed from him that was extremely dark and dangerous. His hair was loose and spilling down over his shoulders and seemed to glow in the light allowing me to see his face almost perfectly. he murmured against my skin. My cheeks flushed. "I'd like that." He rewarded me with a somewhat devious grin as he pulled me up to my feet. He curled his fingers around mine, holding my hand as we tiptoed around drunk unconscious crewmen and dark cabanas where the families had turned in for the sleepy night. I didn't know what time it was, but the silence felt ethereal. Only Thane and I against the darkness of the night. But I never felt safer. He led me to the bay, the place where I saw his dragon for the first time. Gold clenched within massive teeth. He terrified me then, but now I felt this overwhelming sense of pride.

It was pointless to try to cover it so I made a ponytail and headed to the kitchen.

And then — it rose. A form unfurled out of the radiance, stretching massive wings that brushed the rafters, dissolving and reforming in sparks of molten silver. The creature’s body shimmered with scales that flickered between translucent crystal and ink-black shadow. Its eyes burned like twin stars — ancient, intelligent, protective. A dragon. Not fully corporeal, not yet, but real. Sierra staggered back, clutching her chest. “No—no, this isn’t—” The dragon lowered its head toward her, exhaling a breath that smelled like frost and lightning. Its voice wasn’t words but resonance, a vibration deep inside her bones.

“I’ve studied my sister’s sketches—Xaerath’s outer spell forms a spiral. We must pierce it in the eye.” Drakonios banked lower. Gold fire licked along his gauntlets, ready to answer any trap of shadow or ice. “Wyverns down to glide speed,” he barked. Both beasts drew in their wings, coasting on updrafts of cold, haunted air. The deeper they slipped, the heavier the atmosphere became, as though the valley mourned within its own skin. A single column of black rock rose ahead—like a sentinel. Strange glyphs glimmered on its face, pulsing—

Cold black mist poured through the opening. Every living creature in the valley froze. An overwhelming pressure seemed to crush the air itself. Even the Night Titans knelt. The Shadow Legion lowered their heads. The Crimson Warden smiled triumphantly. "Our Lord..." "...welcome home." Through the narrow opening, a single enormous eye slowly appeared. It was larger than an entire castle tower. Its iris glowed molten gold. Its pupil was darker than the deepest night. The Shadow Dragon. Only one eye was visible... Yet its presence alone made the mountains tremble.

Thunder rumbled, but the sound was distorted, almost sentient. On a vast open field stood a creature of pure nightmare. Shadow Scale. The massive dragon towered above them, its body covered in black scales that absorbed light. Each scale shimmered like shifting shadows, alive and breathing. Its eyes glowed a deep, hellish red—radiant, intelligent, and hungry. Its wings stretched across the field like a living eclipse, blotting out what little light dared to exist in the Demon Realm. Shadow Scale snorted, releasing a cloud of red mist that corroded the grass instantly.

When he was done his purple jewel-like eyes glowed at us, his mouth opened and I saw sharp teeth. He was in the sky high above us, his great wing beating into the air, taking him higher before I was ready. Marcus moved forward, he looked over his shoulder at me one last time before his the same sounds filled the room. The dragon that crouched before me was far bigger than both Louis and Nash. Marcus’ scaly skin was pitch black and looked rough to the touch, he turned around slowly and I was met with deep obsidian eyes. Eyes that even in his other form were sad.
