The sigils overhead split, fell, rained down as burning shards that scorched earth and flesh alike. Nyxara screamed, and it didn’t belong to any mortal throat. Her spine bent, silver-white light shearing through her flesh. Armor split, her skin burned and reknit, bones contorted, snapped, healed, as something older than memory forced its way out. The White Wolf emerged. Not a beast. A legend, all claws and fangs and incandescent wrath. She towered—blinding, terrible—her fur white as untrodden snow, streaked with fresh blood, eyes blazing violet and silver. Ancient runes glimmered along her flanks, constellations etched in flesh.

I fought hard against one powerful monster who was considered to be second under dragons. Though wyverns and dragons are in the same family, the only difference is wyverns have two legs while dragons have four. The red wyvern swings his spiky tail as I dodge, causing the crowd to go wild. They have been cheering for the damn lizard since the start of the fight. That was thirty minutes ago. My battle with the wyvern has been going on for this long—longer than the other rounds, where it only lasts under fifteen minutes.

I took a deep breath and continued, “But I do have one favor to ask. Can I please have some wolfsbane?” She looked back up, meeting my eyes, studying me, and cocking her head to the side. While she was human, Hugo told me that she knew about our kind. He and my mom were not the only werewolves she employed. “What do you need wolfsbane for?” “It’s personal.” I wasn’t telling her shit. “What form do you want it in?” “What forms does it come in?” “The two most common are dehydrated and a concentrated liquid—usually we sell the liquid form in darts.”

They have been fighting other packs around them for months,because they were the smallest pack of the packs around them. Those fight were more for territory over anything else. The strongest of any of the packs around them was the Blood Lust pack. All they cared about was power and territory.

The rows of yellow teeth in its partially open jaw are not quite as big, but they seem equally sharp and no less deadly. When the wyvern is less than a dozen feet above us, it suddenly spreads its wings, slowing its descent just as Kai had promised. A moment later, I hear a crackling sound, like the air has suddenly become filled with static electricity. The creature’s body immediately seems thicker, more solid, as the xyn thing ends. The wyvern really does look like a small cousin to a dragon. Thank goodness they don’t breathe fire. I’m not sure how we would deal with that.

The street lamps began to crumble just like they had done the day of the accident, the earth crumbling as the ground quaked. “Seems you could use a little help, little vamparina.” A masculine voice resonated in the air. Vamparina? There he stood, along with my parents, his eyes red, his black dreadlocks running down along his face, his muscles big, merging perfectly with his physique, his perfectly chiseled jawline with a black cloak on. “Blood!” They groaned. “Back to the underworld.” He said as he raised his hands. The air stood still, flame engulfing the creatures in a minute. Groans filled the air as they began to disintegrate into soot, flowing along with the wind.

Massive, covered in black fur, with talons that sparked against the stone. Then another hand. And then, pulling itself up from the dark, shaking the earth with every movement, came the Wolf. He was huge. Bigger than he had ever been. His fur was matted with the black ichor of the Void. His eyes weren't gold anymore. They were white, burning, blinding white. He climbed out of the hole. He stood on his hind legs, towering over Darius, towering over the warlocks, and towering over me. He threw his head back and howled.

An obnoxious white wolf came out of nowhere. I took a step back as she sauntered toward me, a grimace plastered all over her face as if she was going to pop up the hell outta me. "Accept who you are, Aksha." I nodded in panic. "Welcome, Aksha Beatrix Aslenovie." I catch a glimpse of my hands, turning into white hairy legs. Or was I imagining things? A howling voice echoed in the forest as I opened my eyes.
