Luna stayed close to her side protectively. “This is Nyx. Ancient Lunar Wolf. Survivor of the first void wars. That is what unfocused military escalation would do to us.”

I demanded, keeping my voice steady. The figure didn’t answer right away. It stepped closer, its movements smooth and unsettling. When it finally spoke, its voice was calm but carried an eerie weight. “You may call me Nyx.” The name sent a shiver down my spine. Something about this being felt ancient, powerful, and not entirely human. “What do you want?” I asked, refusing to let my fear show. Nyx’s glowing eyes locked onto mine. “You have meddled with forces you do not understand, little wolf. Breaking the relic has set events into motion that cannot be undone.”

“But I need to see Nyxar. Alone.” Kane frowned. “You’re still..” “Please.” He hesitated... then nodded. Nyxar sat sprawled across a windowsill, drinking from a wine bottle he’d likely stolen from the kitchen. His tattoos shimmered faintly in the afternoon light, but his expression was distant. Reflective. When Lyra entered, he didn’t move. “You saw it,” he said, not turning. “You finally saw what she did.” She stepped forward slowly. “You were there.”

It was everything we had sacrificed for. And then, she arrived. Her name was Nyx, and she came from the cold, dark spaces between stars, a place where the Constant’s gentle pressure was weakest. Her gown looks like it was woven from the night sky, and her eyes burn the same violet shade as my wolf’s, except twisted into something cruel. “Get away from him,” I snarl, pulling Kael against my chest. Nyxara smiles. It’s the kind of smile wolves make before biting. “Oh, little wolf,” she purrs. “You think you can keep what belongs to me?”

Nyx dressed in black and memorized the route. The sublevel smelled like metal and cold stone. The room she entered was smaller than the one she’d found before, and intimate, deliberate. A round table. Three chairs were occupied. One empty. Celeste Whitmore sat to the left. Across from her, a man Nyx didn’t recognize, the older, eyes sharp with calculation. And Alaric. “Sit,” the man said. Nyx did. “You’ve disrupted projected outcomes within your first twenty-four hours,” he continued. “Impressive. Reckless.”

“I hate it too, but there’s not much else we can do unless we want to start something with the Lycan brat.” I swallow hard, the tension between wanting to find Aeron and wanting to get Eva back pulling me in two different directions. “And what about Eva?” Nero meets my gaze, his expression hardening. “That’s going to be more complicated.” “What the hell does that mean?” “It means,” Nero says, “Eva is Darius’ Luna. She’s the rightful Luna of his pack. He’s got a claim on her, and unless she rejects him, that claim holds. If we try to take her without her rejecting him first, it’s going to start a war. And as much as I hate to admit it, we’re not in a position to deal with that right now.”

He turns, his massive frame moving fast as he takes large strides to where his *prisoner* is. Draven watches him. “That’s not suspicious at all,” Nyxar says sarcastically. Draven doesn’t answer. Instead, he lets the shift take place. Muscles tear and rebuild as fur sprouts and bones snap into place. Nyxar's massive form emerges, just as his name suggests, night-born Alpha. He stands tall and proud, his black obsidian coat shimmers in the moonlight. Moving into the shadows, he blends impeccably with the darkness. He follows at a distance. The scent gets closer with each step.
