Layla’s POV Pain. It came in various forms and textures, and even though I had come in contact with some of them, there was always something new to stumble on. This was what I discovered as the blade pierced through my calf, scraping bone on its way. But that wasn’t all. The feeling of silver in me set off agony of an intensity that I could only liken to Wolfsbane, and as all my nerves lit up I groaned, and the world around me seemed to flash white for an instant, and then red.

I mutter. I sigh, starting to get irritated when they still haven't answered me. “Jace bring my dagger,” I order, stretching my arms. He quickly brings the dagger, the sharp, shiny blade shining brightly. “W…we are sorry,” they stutter, staring at the blade and shivering. “You should have spoken earlier when I asked,” I mumble, slashing the one at the front with the dagger. He screams out in pain, and the others shuddered. “Now look what you made me do,” I say, staring at the blood gushing out of his wounded arm. The blade of the dagger is made of silver, making the arm of the man sizzle and burn.

Kyle’s POV Blood spurted from torn blood vessels, splattering onto Blade’s face—he was still not satisfied with just one victory. Four more opponents awaited their fate at his hands. One of them attacked from behind, and Blade didn’t have time to dodge. Several bites and scratches landed on him, causing us to stumble. However, he got back up and retaliated with a barrage of attacks. Two rogues fell, and the others fled in a panic. Blade switched places with me, who was staggering with wounds on my chest, back, and arms. I was nearly collapsing to the ground.

He was bleeding profusely, and his body didn't make a slight move on the ground at the time I had satisfied my fury and stopped. I stared at my hands coated in so much blood. My fingers were shaking tremendously. I was nervous, yet... weak. My vision was getting blurry as I dropped to the ground. I wrapped my shaky fingers around the grip of the blade, and pulled it out from my skin. I stared at the blade, trying to study what could be different about it. It was silver coated—intentionally carved to take out a wolf. I struggled on the floor, picking myself up as I tried returning to the temple. The clash rang out sharp and shrill, sparks exploding between us, lighting the fog for a split second. The impact numbed my arms all the way to the shoulders, the vibration rattling my teeth. Twin blades. Short, curved, mirror-bright daggers crossed against my sword. As I looked up, my heart froze.

Rage exploded inside me, over my dead body! A movement flashed from the corner of my vision; because I was distracted, I caught the move late; a hidden assassin emerged from the shadows. The blade in his hand glowed silver to stab me. I twisted around, but I was not fast enough. Pain exploded through my side. The silver blade plunged beneath my ribs, my roar shook the valley, and the assassin smiled. He didn’t look like a part of the Forgotten.
