Opening the door to her room, Zhi Rou walked in and was dumbstruck! Her bedroom was as big as the living room they were just in, and the decorations were similar to that of her old place. In the centre of the room against the wall was a king-sized bed covered in lavender bed sheets. A white- and lavender-coloured fluffy blanket was folded on the edge of the bed covering the base. The bed had six pillows on it; the bigger pillows were covered in lavender, the medium in white and the small oval pillows were grey with lavender-coloured stripes running horizontally.

Smelled the faint vanilla in the air. It felt like walking into someone else’s dream. She opened the closet—and blinked. “What’s in the bags?” David joined her, crouching beside the carefully arranged shelves. “You said you didn’t want to go full pink or blue,” he said. “So I had them pull both. Once we know, we can switch them in.” He pulled out sets of throw pillows—one in soft blush, the other in muted navy. Matching blankets. Bunting banners. Framed art.

Deep purple drapes covered the windows by night, while a white blind kept the sharp sun out. The bedspread was also lilac with deep purple ornate pillows, fringed with silver. The furniture was whitewashed pine and plush grey carpet finished the look. Someone, probably Mrs. Palmer, had taken the time to put a vase of fresh white lilies and lavender on the dressing table, filling the room with a welcoming scent.

It's time to look around the room for other options. The queen-sized bed has four posts that reach the ceiling, a canopy draping off like the hem of a gown. No doubt in my mind; that burgundy blanket and the pillows that match it is expensive silk. It's the kind of place I'd dream about lounging in. But right now, I rush to the shelves, frantically searching for something sharp.

This is going to be where I really sleep though. The bed is massive, it covers almost have of the room. I convince the earth to bring me some cotton that must be growing nearby for both my mattress and my pillow. I wrap them in moss and then make another blanket out of moss. It is not really that cold down here so I am not too worried about getting cold.

For a brief moment, it almost felt normal, though the reality of my situation quickly reminded me that this normalcy was only surface deep. Against one wall of the room stood a narrow bed. A plain white sheet covered the mattress, and at the foot of the bed, a thin, slightly worn blanket was folded neatly. A single pillow rested at the head, its faded cover showing signs of age and repeated use. Next to the bed was a small nightstand, empty except for a dull lamp that gave off a soft yellow light.

Roast beef, sharp cheddar, mustard, no mayo. Next came the blankets and pillows. I dug through the linen closet until I found the softest ones we owned, then spent way too long trying to figure out which ones would look romantic without being completely obvious. Did we even have romantic blankets? What the fuck did that even mean? Lilith, who was sitting on the edge of the bed watching me lament over cushions, let out a soft laugh. “You’re more into this than I expected.” I shrugged and tossed a small throw pillow aside. “I want it to be perfect.”

"Nothing, that was just cute." Was it my lisp? And when I told him, he then choked on his chai. I giggled and grabbed a pillow to hug, "Were my pillows always this fluffy?" I patted them. "Were they always this big?" I sat up with it in my hands. I rubbed them against the pillow, oddly feeling a satin material, rather than cotton. "These aren't my pillows." I looked down at the blanket that was covering me and pulled it up to reveal last night's clothes that I was still wearing.

Then, I hung dimly lit Christmas lights on the blankets. I changed my bed covers and pillowcases before that, of course, to make sure everything smelled nice. Actually, I set up my bed based on one of the pictures I found on G****e. I even copied the colors of the pillowcases from the picture – the big pillows had red pillowcases, while the three small ones had white pillowcases with aesthetic designs. To make sure everything was perfect, I tested the lights to see if they were all working, and they got two thumbs up.

so empty without Vasilisa here to comfort me. After I managed to calm myself down by counting backwards from ten, I blinked at my dark surroundings. Stillness fell over the apartment, letting me know Liza was still passed out on the couch in my living room. I groaned softly, heaving my exhausted body out of bed to quietly make my way into the bathroom. The first thing I noticed was how pale my complexion looked. Being half Ukrainian, I’ve always been on the lighter side, but this was bad even for me. My cheeks were starting to sink in again, and my delicate collarbone protruded awkwardly. I slowly lifted the black cami top I was wearing up, shocked at the outline of my ribcage.
