Chapter 64: Santa Cruz Night Tuesday – The Day The next morning, sunlight slanted through the tall arched windows of BludHeaven Academy’s cafeteria, turning the polished marble floors into pools of liquid gold. The usual morning chaos was in full swing: younger students darting between tables, trays clattering, the rich scent of fresh coffee mingling with warm pastries and something faintly metallic that only the older vampires seemed to notice.

I blinked against the harshness of the light, my eyes struggling to adjust. When my vision cleared, I took in the size of the room—large and bare, like a dungeon disguised as a prison cell. Cameras hung in each corner, one even pointed at the bathroom. I was being watched like an animal. The man in front of me had the foul stench of a Neotide. Shifter blood, but twisted. And judging from the way his eyes glinted with cruelty, he was part of the elite group ASA had hired to do their dirty work.

Ben just smiled at their excitement. The drinks arrived and they all drank a toast to the fun they were going to have tonight. Ben parked his truck in the lot across from the large converted factory. There was a large line waiting to get in. He looked up at the five story brick clad edifice and took in the bursts of color light flashing out of the large windows. Asylum looked like a good choice of names for this place. He could feel the music from across the street.

For no matter what the enemy could do, as long as they were not deserving, the elixir would never exist in front of them. HER BLOOD was pumping deep inside her as she pushed a slightly ajar door. The door swung and crashed against the wall, earning her a few terrified looks. "M—Miss Lily!" A group of statled nuns rushed to her, although were stopped by the eldest of them. "Miss Lily Alston," she greeted, wearing an amicable smile despite the creases on her brows. "May we help you with your troubles?" Lily Alston breathed heavily and frantically looked around. Seeing none of the familiar small figure she needed to see, she quickly pushed past the nuns and entered the convent's backyard.

Henri said, slowly and coldly, “to make sure my house survives. I am not going to throw the Laurent name against a Sombra because you couldn’t control yourself.” The line clocked dead. Ashford was worse. Edmund wouldn’t come to the phone. The message from his assistant was brief and unforgiving: Mr. Ashford sends his regrets and advises Mr. Holt to heal quietly. The Westwoods didn’t answer at all. Door after door shut in Adrian’s face. He started blocking out his humiliation in half-hour slots on his calendar. By late afternoon, he ended up at a different kind of club. Not the rooftop places where old money paraded its boredom, but a darker corner nearer the river, all low light and mirrored

The freshly scent of bleach, though faint, is strong enough to churn my stomach. It's the kind of clean that tries too hard... the kind that hides blood. We pass closed doors, the thick and silent things that give nothing away. There are no sounds, no voices or idea of what lies behind them. My eyes flick up to the cameras. There are several nestled in every corner like watching insects in the ceiling. Cold, patient and unblinking.

“Come over, take a shower, and get cleaned up. I’ll call the apartment manager and deal with this mess while you do.” Amy hesitated. It wasn’t like she had many options—her bathroom was currently an indoor swimming pool, and the water had already traveled to the rest of her apartment. Her semi-new rug next door must be ruined already. She loved that rug. “Are you sure?” she asked. Asa rolled his eyes. “Amy, just take the damn offer before you start growing mold.” She smiled reluctantly. “Thank you. “Yeah, no problem,” Asa said, waving her off as he grabbed his phone.

Clearly, maintenance is needed, and the bleach is just covering the problem. Nate stirs within my head, pacing and half panting, half grunting. ‘Settle down, Nate. I know it is not pleasant, but it is only for a short while. I know the smell of bleach is overwhelming. It is making my head fuzzy,' I tell him. 'I can’t help it Max, I feel something. I feel fire, electricity and power,' he tells me, continuing to pace and pant. 'There’s nothing powerful here, just settle until we can crash. I will ask Damian to bring food up to the room, so that we can figure out what is getting to you.' I reassure him.

I have to get these symbols off the wall. The kitchen! There has to be something in the kitchen I can use to get these symbols off the wall. I go to the kitchen scramble looking for something to remove the symbols. My mind is in overload. Bleach there has to be bleach here. I look under the cabinet. Yes, bleach! I grab the bleach and I grab a towel. It should do the trick. I run for the door and start scrubbing. As I'm scrubbing the door mayhem comes to the door. He looks at me puzzled and asks me what I'm doing. He doesn't know what's going on, how can this be? He was here when I went to sleep.

In my haze of winning I didn’t hear the footsteps walking towards the living room or even heard them unlock the door. “What in the-" I snapped, turning to see Asher and Rue standing right behind us, two bags in their hands, well, it was there but now on the floor. Rue’s mouth open, a fly could pass in there with no restrictions. "Please tell me I am hallucinating.” Asher whispers, eyes looking back and forth between Aaron and I. “I need bleach. I need to unsee what I just saw.” Rue speaks up after some minutes, walking into the kitchen.
