Blair held the mortar out to me. I extended a claw, slicing a small cut in my hand and let a few drops of blood fall into it. For Maise’s sacrifice, I lifted her wrist to my mouth, biting into her. As soon as her blood had been spilled, I licked over the wound, sealing yet another mark.
The expression on Blair’s face was that of a schoolteacher admonishing a petulant child. I only offered an impish grin in defense. “How many times, exactly, do you need to mark her?”
