(Ash’s POV) The first thing I felt was the sting. A raw, burning pain that crawled from my shoulder down to my arm. The smell of the antiseptic hit me hard as I tried to process my environment. It was nothing like the stale prison air I was used to or the smoke I had just come out of. It smelt… clean. I blinked, vision hazy until the ceiling above me finally stayed in one place. It was white and too bright. “Don’t move,” a voice said beside me. Calm, clipped, but definitely upset about something. “You’ll rip the stitches apart.”

Henri said, slowly and coldly, “to make sure my house survives. I am not going to throw the Laurent name against a Sombra because you couldn’t control yourself.” The line clocked dead. Ashford was worse. Edmund wouldn’t come to the phone. The message from his assistant was brief and unforgiving: Mr. Ashford sends his regrets and advises Mr. Holt to heal quietly. The scent hit first: metal, dampness, and something faintly sour—like blood that had dried too long ago to matter. “Okay,” I whispered to myself. “Maybe I don’t need to see what’s inside. Maybe I just close the door and go back upstairs like a sane person.”

Blaze was a coiled spring, his eyes blazing, his body trembling under the pressure of holding himself back. Rhea looked up at Ash, paralyzed with fear and the sheer dominance of his presence.
