Between Us and Ashes

Between Us and Ashes

The ordinary, extraordinary texture of it. She thought: I need that Tuesday kitchen to still exist tomorrow. The hospital was what hospitals are at midnight — fluorescent, efficient, smelling of antiseptic and the specific anxiety of people waiting to hear things. She gave his name at reception. She was taken back to a curtained bay where Caleb was sitting upright in a hospital bed with an IV in his arm and an expression on his face that she recognized immediately: the expression of a man who was embarrassed to have frightened someone. "I'm fine," he said.

Ashes to Dawn

Ashes to Dawn

GRACE'S POV When I left the hospital, the sky had turned gray. It seemed to match my mood. Lovely. I half expected it to start raining so I could finally let go and cry my eyes out. I stood outside for a long moment, holding the envelope of medical reports against my chest. Maybe if I held it tight enough, it would disappear alongside the illness. It didn't work. Eventually, I realised that I probably looked weird as I stood there, outside, unmoving. People probably thought I was a suicide bomber. I drove away from the hospital, praying that the ache in my chest would disappear.

Ashes Before Dawn

Ashes Before Dawn

The wind scattered the ashes, and the rain soaked them, washing them away little by little amidst the flowing water. Sheila fell out of her wheelchair and hit the ground. Ignoring the pain, she crawled toward the drain, desperately trying to gather the ashes with her hands. It was hopeless. "My baby… My baby..." She could only watch as her child's ashes slowly disappeared. There was nothing she could do. It felt as though someone had torn her heart apart. She knelt in the mud, sobbing as she reached deep into the drain again and again. Her hands quickly became caked with filth, but she kept searching.

"And if nothing does?" Seyla doesn't hesitate. "You get kicked out, unless a beast takes you out first.” I nod once. Makes sense. Nothing here is built for people who fail. "You're not worried?" Luca asks. "No." He frowns. "How come?" Because I won’t be here then. I will play my part as the good little student, while I silently plan my escape. I don’t want or need to be bonded. My place is not here at Aetherion Academy. I seek vengeance for my parents. I seek vengeance for my baby sister. I seek vengeance for myself and every single scar I never deserved.

The putrid scent of antiseptic assaults my nose as I pace in the hospital's emergency room, waiting for the doctor to tell me why my Luna, Beta, and Gamma are in the state they are in. I burst through the doors earlier to find Ashleigh, only to be kicked out, so the hospital staff had space to work on her. I hoped they were helping her. I can’t lose her. Her bloodstains on my skin from holding her close have now dried as I didn’t want to wash away her scent. It was the only thing keeping me sane right now.

As I check, I see this is a new writer and it seems like it’s first book unless it’s on a different app. But as I read the intro, I noticed not grammar mistakes and the beginning is well explain so I’ll give it a try and see how good this author could be. As of now I will rate a 5 starts.

Ashes Between Us

Hermione sang, she was wearing a beautiful black blouse with jeans. She had washed her hair and still had a faint blush on both cheeks. Her white skin gleamed like alabaster and Ruke became aware that he had not cleaned up. Hermione however ushered him out of the house, locked her door and they drove back towards the woods.

he informs me as I unlock the door. Once I am in the hallway, I run to my personal bathroom, and still wearing the clothes, I turn on the water. Under the sink, I have a bottle of bleach, and I pour as much as I can over myself. If I could, I would drink it as well. After I use the entire bottle of bleach, I remove my clothes and use what I have left of my soap to wash my hair. I even used it to clean my mouth again. I don’t know what I would do without Safia. She always blocks all the worst parts of my abuse for me.

Violets and Ash

Violets and Ash

In the back of my head, I could hear Lacey screaming at me, but her voice was drowned out by the sensations passing through my body, the scents searing my receptors and the images blinding my vision. I wasn’t in a hallway, backed against a row of lockers, but was trapped in the girl’s bathroom, the cold tile pressing against my cheek as they pinned me down. The scent of bleach and lemons told me it had been cleaned recently. That was what I focused on as my hold on my sanity began to slip, not knowing that when it finally happened, an entire team of people would be needed to clean the mess I’d made. His laugh, their laugh, they all sounded the same.

Since Iridian, I have eagerly awaited anything you would write. This book is everything I hoped for: intelligent, fast-paced, and draws you into the characters. Your storytelling is impeccable, and of the 100-plus books I have read on this app, only one other auther comes close. Thanks for the ride!

I love this book! And in the author’s defense, while she may not update often, when she does she DELIVERS. She gives us 4-5 lengthy, passion packed, well written chapters all at once, which I super appreciate......️ Most authors that update daily give ok chapters that are riddled w/grammatical errors
