“You have to bleed into it. Let it remember you.” --- The ritual was simple. Brutal. Maya sliced across her palm with the blade. As her blood hit the metal, the dagger screamed—a high-pitched whine that echoed out across the cove. The glow along the blade turned dark red, then blue, then something impossible to name. It began to hum—matching the frequency of the trench’s choir. Then—opposing it. The creatures in the water convulsed. The song wavered. Maya took a deep breath.

she says. “I know,” Dade replies. “But we’re allowed to support you.” She exhales slowly, tension leaking out of her shoulders a fraction at a time. “Fine,” she says. “What do you have?” Dade crosses to the speaker, taps a few buttons. Static crackles, then settles into a low, steady beat—something rhythmic, grounded, almost tribal. No lyrics. Just pulse. Alex closes her eyes as the sound fills the room. Her breathing adjusts almost immediately, syncing with the tempo.

"I'm pretty sure I saw a guy trying to sell snacks on the highway, and I'm not even joking. I was tempted to buy a bag of chips just to pass the time." Paul laughed. "Anyway, I'm glad you made it. Let's go make some music." My heart pounded when he led me to the live room. I felt tingles all over and hoped that nothing would ruin my perfect start. He passed me a bottle of sparkling water and headed to the control room to turn on the microphones and preamps. My eyes darted around, and I loved the deep blues and purples that dominated the color scheme. Paul handed me a sheet of music. "Let's start with this one; it's a ballad called 'Echoes.'"

I shake my head, take a deep breath, and finally open the door. And that's when I hear it—this beautiful, amazing melody that just fills the room. It's the Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem in D minor, and it's like pure bliss for my ears. The vocals are all singing “Lacrimosa,” and the music just washes over me like a wave of heavenly sound. For the first time ever, I'm actually glad Vivaldi's around. I mean, the guy's got taste, I'll give him that. But just as I'm getting lost in the music, I trip over something and go stumbling forward—and that's when I see it. A dead body, staring up at me with glassy, lifeless eyes and a neck that's been ripped open, blood everywhere.

Esper whispered. "Ready." Senna nodded. The door swung silently open, Esper being the first to enter. She tiptoed over to the stereo and scrolled through the playlists until Esper found Ride of the Valkyrie. Barely containing her excitement, Esper looked back at Senna. She gave her companion a small nod and then hit play. Both girls waited patiently as the music began to build. As the song's powerful crescendo began blasting through the speakers, the vampires rushed to their unsuspecting victim. They landed on the bed, jumping up and down as hard as they could.

I gave him a small salute and a bright smile. Blaze introduced our next song. “This song is another one of Nick’s favorites. Mine too. Right now, this seems so fitting for the occasion. I couldn’t resist. Here we go!” Blaze played the first notes on the guitar. After five chords, I hit the hi-hat and started the difficult drum work for the song “Mr. Brightside.” Fortunately, it was one of my favorite pieces to play. I’ve played it plenty of times at Rhythemes. I got lost in the beat, I even forgot that I was wearing a skirt. Now I realized why Blaze asked the saleslady to give me a pair of shorts to wear under the dress. He did have this all planned out down to the smallest detail.

I guess this was the intro of the song. Lance strummed the strings with this triangular pin for a few seconds. The sound was cool to the ears and it reverberated throughout the room. I haven’t heard him sing yet but I’m already feeling chills and I have a good feeling that this is going to be a good one. He played the intro and he looked at me, smiled as if preparing me for this one lugubrious song that he wrote for whoever’s that person he liked back in his high school days before eventually opening his mouth to sing the song. The initial sound I perceive is music. Not the gentle, remote melody of a tune coming from the radio. No, this is boisterous, forceful, intense-a fusion of trumpets, drums, and voices merging into a magnificent symphony that shakes the surrounding atmosphere. My eyelids blink open, and for a brief moment, I'm trapped between the blurred traces of slumber and the strange reality before me. The door opens wide. The unexpected light bursts in, exposing a procession of musicians entering my room. The profound, resonant thump of the drum reverberates in my chest, the victorious sound of trumpets cuts through the air, and a vocalist's voice ascends above everything else.

His breath stank of cigarettes. "Let me go!" I gagged, struggling hard. The next second, the guy flew two feet back, passing out with a grunt. A familiar, cool scent hit me as someone helped me up. I looked up to see a handsome face, and tears poured out. "You left the party early," he said, his voice deep and soothing. "I got worried and checked the surveillance. I'm sorry I'm late."

It's like I'm being hypnotized. "U-uhm, since you asked for it, I-i'm going to introduce myself as well as my band mates." He said and Mike laughed even if there's nothing funny with what he said. "This guy's name is Mark." He first introduced the drummer and we all clapped for him as he bowed in front of the crowd. "Our guitarist's name is Cole." The boy who seemed to be the youngest member smiled at the crowd and also bowed. "And our wonderful bassist's name is Troy." He last introduced the bassist. And he did the same. Then, the crowd fell in silence as we all waited for the vocalist to introduce himself. I don't understand why I'm having difficulty in breathing as I wait for him to final
