A cloud of fumes filled her lungs, choking her. She used the sleeve of her blouse as a mask, attempting to filtrate the air. Her eyes burned as she looked over the room. There was an open container of bleach laying on its side, now clearly emptied. The contents had been launched sporadically in every direction. Some of her clothes were speckled with orange and yellow spots where the liquid had bled into the fabric, and in other areas, she could still see where pools had formed on the carpet underneath the clothes from where the chemical had been poured directly onto them. They were all discolored and ruined. Jade backed out of the room and closed the door, gasping for a breath of air.

SEVEN The slippery liquid burned my lips as soon as it made contact. It was as if I had lit a match and brought it to my lips. Quickly, I moved the bottle away and wiped my lips with the back of my hand. My tongue accidentally brushed my lips. The bleach tasted awful. I retched and spat on the floor. The awful taste lingered on the tip of my tongue, but I had another problem. There was a burning sensation in my eyes. Tears swiftly flooded into them, causing my vision to be blurry. After one aggressive head shake, I cupped my hands under the flowing liquid , watching it pool inside before overflowing , bent over and splashed it against my face in hopes that it would bring down the high. It felt like ice cubs slapping my face as a sharp exhale pushed past my parted lips, affirming its overly exaggerated cold temperature. Another splash of water on my face and I was good to go. Or at least I thought. Meeting with my stare at the greasy bathroom mirror, water sliding down my face like a profuse bleed , I lock gazes with my bloodshot eyes, the green iris resembling muddy moss.

So I noticed a little button by the side, a small green button, and I thought to myself that this must be the on button. I switched it on. The nozzle pointed directly at my face and instead of water coming out, liquid soap poured out of it and splashed directly at my face. It came so fast that the liquid covered my eyes while they were open, blinding me immediately and sending a burning sensation through them. I screamed, slipping down to the floor, looking for the water sink to wash the soap off my face. Drent heard my scream from outside and ran into the bathroom, seeing me on the floor blinded by soap and struggling to find water to wash my face.

That’ll ease the burning.” The nurse nodded quickly and ran to fetch the supplies. Rachel and I stood at a distance, watching it unfold. People were still murmuring around us, some filming, others whispering as they dispersed. The chaos was slowly dissolving, but Derek remained at the center of it, loud and dramatic.
