I tried to breathe in but my lungs protested restricting airflow. “Damon…I can’t breathe” I said, gasping for air. He immediately bent to me and parted my lips. He pressed his mouth gently over them and blew in air, my lungs relaxing in return. In a few seconds my breathing evened out but he stayed where he was.

He draws a massive, ragged gulp of air deep into his lungs, his chest expanding so violently that the bronze buttons on his vest snap off and clatter against the stone floor. The dark violet, blue-tinted color instantly recedes from his face, replaced by a healthy, roaring flush of hot wolf blood. The swollen tissue in his throat collapses back to normal, and his breathing turns deep, rhythmic, and powerful. Wesley gasps for air, looking around the gazebo in sheer bewilderment. Planting my hands in the dirt, energy buzzes around my fingers. I try again to push myself up, heart hammering. Not being able to breathe is causing my body to go into a panic, desperate for air. I let out one final yell before collapsing onto the ground, and the energy leaves my fingers, traveling through the soil and going to the demon. I watch in horror as it opens its mouth and glides across the room. The demon's empty eyes shift red and make a clucking sound. My throat becomes dry. I can barely breathe as it sucks the oxygen from my parted lips. The closer it comes, I claw at my neck for help and plea to my inner voice for help, "Help me! Please, I can't breathe!"
