The coach drifted to the right as it dodged yet another car; the driver corrected. “Yeah—right!” The demon’s mouth split wider, teeth stacked. “Small ones,” it said. “Tasty ones.” Scott readied himself for the fight that came; he held Demonslayer in his right hand, ready to ignite. “You’re not having the children!” He shouted.

I fear that it must have hit one of his lungs because he seems to be having trouble breathing. Archer mustered up some strength so he could swat away Belzeebub. The sixth demon prince flew back with a shriek while Archer falls to his knees. Grinning, Belzeebub surges back to finish him off. Susan lay on the floor lifeless I went over to where she lay and blood dropping from my legs and abdomen as I took each step, I checked if she got a pulse but she had mild heart beat. I dialled 911 and called for an ambulance while I resuscitated her giving her CPR.

They moved towards her, but with one of her hands, she sent them flying across the room, and they hit the wall. “Ayla!” I raised my voice. She pulled her hands away just as Damon took a deep breath—strong, loud, clear. Silvia gasped. “He’s breathing normally!” The light faded. Damon’s skin wasn’t pale anymore. Color returned to his cheeks. His chest moved steadily. Ayla staggered back, but I caught her before she could fall. “Easy,” I said as I helped her to sit, trying to distract myself from the stinging feeling I got holding her close to me.

My claws gouged deep trenches in the stone as I launched myself into the air. I slammed into him with enough force to send us both skidding across the floor. But he only laughed. “You are fire with no air,” he rasped, crushing his palm against my throat. “Burning yourself into smoke.” He lifted me by the neck like I weighed nothing. My paws thrashed. My claws lashed. My lungs burned. He squeezed. My airway closed. My vision faded. “Lucas…” I choked. The Demon King leaned close, his breath cold smoke against my muzzle. “He cannot hear you. He is already halfway into my realm.”

Her lungs were acting like lungs and it felt like it was slowly being filled with water. She gasped for air, and yet her own body was betraying her. She commanded her limbs to move, for her mouth to scream, and yet she was out of control. ‘What are you doing?!’ The demon inside her screamed again and again. ‘Stand up and kill him — kill him!’

“Calm down?” I looked up at him, my face wet, my breath uneven. “Can I calm down when he’s lying here like this?” I clutched Nick’s hands tighter, pressing them to my chest. “There’s no way I can calm down. No way.” My lungs burned. Each breath felt too shallow, like my body had forgotten how breathing was supposed to work. “It feels like I’m running out of air,” I whispered. “Like I’m suffocating.” Ben reached for my shoulder gently. “Lyra. Listen to me.”
