Hunter headed to the corner shop to grab coffee and breakfast, knowing she’d still want a bite. Chloe pulled on her clothes, stepped out of the bathroom, and froze. The masked man was there. A sharp blow to her head, and everything went black. Hunter stepped back into the house and instantly knew something was wrong. The air felt heavy, and then he smelled it, blood. Her blood. His chest tightened. Why hadn’t she fought back? The bracelet. Callum. He tried to follow the scent, but it vanished abruptly, probably where they’d forced her into a vehicle.

He held the dagger up to Ruben and Ruben stepped forward taking Batton’s other wrist and slashing it open as well. Kat gasped in a breath as Ruben stood side on to Batton and raised his hand, igniting Blood Reign and Batton’s blood started to glow, lifting up from the ground and, like dust particles in the sunlight, drifted up in small filaments and disappearing. Batton grimaced and a pained strangled noise escaped him as the Blood Reign started to pull the blood from his open veins, draining him completely. “You’ll kill him…” Kat breathed, watching with a morbid fascination.

She wasn’t really sure if it was a good idea striking a deal with this threatening bloodhunt. She thought she was gaining the upperhand, but it turned out that the bloodhunt was smarter than her. All of a sudden, the bloodhunt spoke, “You’re different from your kind. Scared—yes, but quite amusing. Young lady, you have spunk.” The bloodhunt bit his fingertip and began to scribble something on the ground with his own blood. “Witborn, what’s your name?” She looked at what the bloodhunt was doing. “Chastine. W-why?”

Anything. They would need hair or skin or a nail and I can't think of a situation where they could've obtained it. “They got your blood from some woman,” he said shaking his head. I never gave my blood to anyone. What woman would've gotten her paws on blood? The list of people I wanted to kill was growing longer name by name. “What woman?” “I don’t remember her name, just that she was a Lady,” No. Fucking. Way. That little skank used the blood she drew from me the night of the Hunt and handed it over to a witch!

Survival. Fifth cup this morning. And it’s just 7:00 a.m. I think I’m losing it. I shove the empty glass aside, grip my car key and briefcase, and head out of the penthouse. The city is too bright. That was when something rammed into him, knocking him out. It was Trey or at least the Black Wolf he had turned into in the Kitchen. He bared his teeth and snarled at the circle he had jumped into. They attacked him and he fought back. Hailey remained on the ground still too stunned to react. Trey held his own against the pack but his sapping strength was no match for theirs. Blood weeps instantly from his wounds, and I’m instantly enveloped with Carmen’s very essence, mingled with his. “What the fuck?” Clifton gasps as he backs away from the vile abomination. “He ingested her blood,” I whisper in terror. Brody retches. “He’s fucking human.” A shrill ring blasts through the room and the hunter’s cellphone vibrates across the table I set it on. The hunter’s eyes widen in terror for only a moment, but it’s long enough for me to know that the phone is a weakness. I allow the call to go to voicemail. The hunter may have been trained by the Sect to be firm and stoic, but it is not hard to notice the way his body sags slightly in relief.

Will heard the commotion before he was close enough to see and by the pungent scent of iron in the air, he knew he was running head-on into a bloodbath. The first sight that met his eyes was a hunter on the back of a brown wolf and a silver rope wrapped around its neck, by the looks of it, she was quickly losing consciousness. Will didn’t blink when he sprang from the ground and knocked the hunter off, the sound of bones shattering when his weight came down on the man only made him thirsty for blood.
