Just books and silence and no one asking questions. That's where I found it. A book about bloodline gifts. Old, leather bound, the pages yellow with age. I almost put it back but something made me open it yo read. Empathy. The ability to sense and influence emotions. Rare. Dangerous if untrained. Runs in specific bloodlines. I flipped through the pages, looking at the family names listed. Most I didn't recognize. Old packs, old names, some probably extinct by now. Then I saw it. (Riversong).

“Or maybe they did and wanted to keep it hidden. If this bloodline is as powerful as the book suggests, then revealing it could change everything. It could threaten the balance of power in the pack—or even beyond.” My mind raced as I tried to process everything. Could it be true? Could I really be descended from an Alpha line that was strong enough to shake the foundations of the pack? “Is there anything in the book that proves it?” I asked, my voice firm. “Anything that ties me directly to this lineage?” Lysa hesitated, then reached out and turned to a page near the back of the book. “Here,” she said, pointing to a symbol that looked like a crescent moon intertwined with a wolf’s head.

The dry notation of a man cataloguing a subject. The subject was the golden bloodline. Ava read over his shoulder. Page by page the entries filled in — carrier locations, activation events, failed manifestations, bloodlines that emerged and were suppressed before they developed. Generation after generation, tracked with the patience of someone who understood that what they were waiting for might take a very long time. The writing became more focused as the years advanced. *The Sterling line is the strongest candidate in three generations. The omega born to the Evergreen keeper carries the full inheritance. The shelves were taller here and the books were arranged by bloodline rather than subject. I ran my fingers along the spines as I moved deeper. While looking, I saw names I recognized and some names I didn't. I was looking for anything on the Lunae line, anything beyond what Rhea's book had told me and what Velistra had told me. I needed more. I needed to understand what I was, what my father was, before the tournament's second day tomorrow, before anything else could happen. I moved through three rows before I found the bloodline section that was titled - Lunae.

The definition was written in the middle of the yellowed parchment and there was nothing else.

“But you do. You know what your father would do if he found out some girl dared to stain his legacy. And you know he wouldn’t lose a wink of sleep doing it.” Ethan didn’t speak. His silence was louder than any denial Alexandra took a small breath, letting her next words land slow and sharp. “Now...let’s talk about my father. This time Leo leaves a hand on my shoulder and turns me to face Ben along with him. “Ben, this is Remington. Alpha Jamie’s son.” This one sentence changed the air around us. A new wind blew through the pack members as the truth of my bloodline was announced so simply in that one introduction. Was the book wrong? If the book was wrong, the book wouldn't be restricted. She then added a little more ash, and the the blood began to foam. Interesting. She watched it closely, taking note of every single change. By the time the blood stopped foaming, it had turned black. She smiled. Now she wondered if this would work on the royal vampires. If only she could get their blood.
