Drake’s POV – I stir awake to the faint echoes of battle still humming through the air. The scent of blood clings to the wind, but the fighting is ending—our men and Baylee’s wolves are finishing off the last of the rogues. It doesn’t take long. When it’s over, Ben taps me, and I open my eyes with a groan, blinking as the sunlight hits me full in the face. “Damn, that’s bright,” I mumble, shielding my eyes. Beside me, Dain groans too, clutching his head as the last traces of poison seep from my body. Caron’s potion is working—cleansing, pushing out the darkness.

Elowen said. Soryn’s voice came cool and clear. “Meridian was commissioned after the last bloodline panic. A place to “appraise” dangerous anomalies. They consulted every defector, every frightened House willing to sell old ward patterns, every Tribunal‑friendly witch who wanted to test new toys. The result is a sanctum whose very walls are designed to mute what runs in your veins.”

What a twisted, moronic, merciless curse it was, made by dark magic that was just as mysterious as being a vampire. “I’ll update you once I get a breakthrough,” Mera stated once she got enough blood specimen in her tubes. She stood up and placed them inside her valise. “It is a waiting game now,” Cord remarked.

I watched helplessly as blood poured from her wound, and I didn’t need to go to her to know she was dead before her body hit the ground. “No!” She was needed to perform the spell to transfer the power and life essence back into Atlas. I was on to Remus within seconds. “What is that saying about a woman scorned?” My claws extended before I pushed them into his chest, ripping his heart out and crushing it into my hands, relishing in the way the life went out of his eyes. “Well, nevermind. You’re dead.” His body made a loud thump as it fell to the floor, but he would not be given a second thought.

As I tell him about her mood getting increasingly more agitated, her roar, her growl and finally the flames, he prepares to draw her blood. “Okay, I’d like to draw blood. Is she going to let me?” he asks. Kaylani touches her hand and I feel the weight of sleep pushing into Merethyl. “Just for a moment,” she says when I look up at her. “If she’s acting like a fire dragon, I don’t want her hurting Everett.” He draws Merethyl’s blood while she’s basically unconscious and attaches the saline drip to her arm. As he packs up the tubes of Mere’s blood, he looks back at us. “Have either of you ever seen anything like this?” he asks.

The air smelled of harsh antiseptic, rubbing alcohol, and the faint, bitter scent of my own sweat. I was completely, utterly empty. They had taken my blood. They had extracted my marrow. They had drained the very essence of my physical strength to patch up Chloe Montgomery, the fragile porcelain doll currently sleeping peacefully three floors above me in a VIP suite flooded with orchids and plush teddy bears. “Trust your gut, Ethan. It’s sharper than you think.” I thanked him and left feeling lighter than I had in days.
