The guards tightened their grip, but my body sagged, weak and trembling. My vision tunneled. Somewhere far above me, Damien’s voice spoke, steady and merciless. “It is sealed.” The world tilted. My last sight before darkness claimed me was crimson drops spreading across the marble like blooming roses.

“Make me forget everything but you.” And I did. Again and again, until sweat and breath and heartbeat became one rhythm. Until her cries became the only sound I wanted to hear. Until the pain of betrayal was swallowed by the heat of her devotion. When at last we collapsed together, exhausted and drained she smiled faintly against my chest. “Now you know,” she whispered, “I am yours. And I will stand with you when the blood moon rises.” For the first time in weeks, I allowed myself to believe it.

I grab her head and press my thumbs into her eyes, blinding her. Old Mia screams out in pain, as blood gushes from her eyes. I release my grip on her head and the old crone collapses to the floor, thrashing around violently. I turn my back on her and move to join Nolan. “I am no angel. I´m a werewolf.”
