She was old enough, for sure, especially if she was going to get married soon. But she was never the kind of person to go out on the weekends, to a club or even a bar and always preferred the comfort of their apartment which Lucas didn’t mind at all even when he wanted to go out. The other two fanned out. “Pretty thing,” the leader rasped. “You smell like Storm Ridge.” Emerie backed toward the edge. “Let me pass.” One of them chuckled. “Oh, we’ll let you pass. Just through us first.” They lunged. She grabbed a thick branch and swung wildly, catching one in the side. He yelped but didn’t fall.

I needed to go for a run to clear my head. I didn’t even bother taking my clothes off and just shifted in mid-run towards the woods. I let Maddox take full control and we took off jumping over fallen limbs and rocks. I’m not sure how long we had been running for before we came to a river. It was moving rather slowly, so Maddox went down to take a drink, when we heard twigs snapping across the river. Maddox ears perked up and his nose went towards the sky sniffing the air. Just as a gust of wind blew Maddox caught the scent of a rogue. Just when I thought this night couldn’t get any worse.

Especially not Crownless ones. The herb I seek, is called Mireblossom and it grows in the heart of a swamp carved into the spine of the mountain range. It blooms only during magical storms, feeding off raw energy. And right now, the storm is more than weather. It feels alive, more magical, even.

Everything from riverbanks to ridge lines was recorded. At its center was a carved figurine: a wolf painted red. Redmaw. And beside it, a new one—recently added. How did it get there? Rain stared down at the rose she had found by her bedside the second the woke up. The scent drifting in the air and causing her to smile. It reminded her of her time in the cabin and Rain didn’t realize how much she missed waking up to the comforting scent of roses until this one was brought to her. Rain silently wondered with a smile, would they still let her go back to the cabin or did Alexander plan to have her stay in the mansion permanently?
