(Leo Bloodstone POV) After spending several hours reassigning my men —I was pulling them from inside Blue Ridge but not away from it— I walked into a tavern and sat down at the bar. The place was mostly empty. Despite the hour —it was just after noon— it was dark and dingy inside. It was on human territory about ten minutes outside Blue Ridge borders. They did not cater to werewolves specifically, but I had gotten to know the bartenders there pretty well in the past couple of years. They knew not to ask too many questions.

“I see what you mean about Jessica. She’s gorgeous.” “Yep.” “And I love that on Katie…is she?” “Yes, she’s blind, but don’t let that fool you too much. There was a glass display case full of baked goods, and the smell was heavenly as they walked in and were greeted by a very interesting young lady dressed in the most fashionable gothic attire.

I lied, the words tasting like copper. We arrived at The Blue Anchor, a sleek, glass-fronted restaurant overlooking the university harbor. The moon was reflected in the dark water, the masts of the sailboats clinking against each other in the gentle breeze. It was the kind of place meant for romance, for new beginnings, for people who didn't have a "Sophie" or a "Hannah" haunting their every move. The hostess led us to a corner table near the window. Ethan was attentive, pulling out my chair and ordering a bottle of crisp white wine before I could even open the menu.

She was a supernatural, but I couldn't tell what she was.
