The vampire got pushed to a tree by one of the pewter creatures with the brightest and unusual blue eyes. She was watching the pewter tear the vampire into pieces with his claws when a pained cry was heard before her and she swung her head in the direction. Anthony was fighting a fledgling. A screech from the left, and she looked in the direction. The young beast was fighting with a newborn vampire. The forest became another war zone when the vampires multiplied and were being fought by Anthony, Jacob, and the blue-eyed creature. They brought the fight to the forest.

Waist-high and glowing faintly, she looked like something out of a myth. The forest’s darkness bent around her, like even it didn’t want to mess with her. “Beautifully dangerous,” I murmured, smiling despite the exhaustion gnawing at my bones. “Just like me, huh?” Blue made that weird chirp-growl sound, almost smug. Suddenly, a dense mist rolled out across the clearing ahead. My hand went straight to my dagger. “Oh, come on. Not another one.” But before I could take a step forward, Blue’s body flared with a soft blue aura, her power rippling outward in a pulse that cut through the fog, the mist hissed, twisting and then dissolving completely, leaving behind a stretch of empty ground.

Hayden winked at Bluey. Kate stiffened, shifting uncomfortably in her seat. Noticing her distress, Bluey’s smile vanished. He lunged forward to attack Hayden across the table, but Kate’s hand shot out, grabbing his wrist to hold him back. Bluey forced himself to relax, his eyes dropping to where her fingers gripped his skin. It was the first time she had ever willingly touched him, and a thrill ran through him. Kate let go immediately, clearing her throat, but Bluey's cheerful smile had already returned.
