I gasped, whisper–shouting. My cheeks flushed with a heat, a warm, buzzing sensation spreading across my face and down my neck. It was so intense I was sure everyone around could feel it. My heart throbbed, pounding against my chest as if it was trying to break free. That was such an unexpected, bold move and it had sent a bolt of lightning zapping through me.

"Let's hope he doesn't show up." Daniel glanced out the passenger side window. "Yeah, let's hope. I'm still not over my need to see that fucker bleed." He looked back at me. "Come on. Let's go and get a drink so you can calm down. Red isn't your color." "Red?" "Yes, Bambina, your neck and cheeks." Fuck. I always got flushed when I was angry and worked up. I got flushed when I was shy, embarrassed, or experienced just about any type of emotion. I was a flusher.

I blushed furiously, feeling exposed and vulnerable in front of both of them. Hollis's eyes seem to pop out of his head as he stares at me in shock, while Max’s crying subsides slightly as he looks at the torn shirt in confusion. “Don’t look,” I stammered, trying to cover myself as best as I could. Turning my back to him, I could feel the heat of embarrassment radiating off me. “I’m so sorry,” Hollis muttered, his face turning red with guilt. “I was shocked, and I didn’t mean to stare,” Hollis said.

“I… he… it’s not what it looks like!” “Oh?” Raven exclaimed with infuriating gentleness, stepping further into the room, eyes sparkling. “Was his shirt that rumpled when he came in… or did that happen as you both rolled around in your bed?” I froze. Mortified. My face burned hotter than the forge. “Wha…Raven!” I sputtered, fumbling with my words. “We didn’t roll around in my bed!” Raven’s eyes gleamed with barely contained amusement. “Uh-huh. Sure. And that’s why you’re blushing like a firebrand.”

I quickly try to hide my reaction but he’s way too quick to notice and damn it if he doesn’t revel in the fact that he made me blush like an innocent virgin who just heard something scandalous. “Well damn,” Adrian starts, jumping up, beyond amused and full of himself, “you look pretty damn tantalizing, flushed that shade of pink.” I don’t give him a chance to say more, lunging at him, hoping to keep him from saying anything else that will mess with my already muddled head.
