her mother says. “Sure it’s no problem,” Dawn said, and her mother handed her an envelope, and Dawn went on her way. She walked into her father's office to find papers tossed everywhere, from his desk to the floor. She wondered, "How could an alpha depart his office looking like that? Dawn tidied up, and within thirty minutes, she had collected all the papers from the desk, making the office clean. Her gaze swept across the room, observing everything, and then her attention landed on a book positioned beside the couch leg. When Dawn reached for it, a folded piece of paper slipped out from the book. Gathering the paper, Dawn feels its texture and sees that it has changed from white to a beige

"You're a miracle worker. Whatever you gave me is pure gold." The bathroom door was open, with fresh towels folded neatly on the counter. Servants must've come in while I was out cold. There was a new stack of books on the nightstand—probably to keep me from going crazy with boredom. I reached for the top one excitedly. The cover was simple leather, the title embossed plainly: Eternal Bonds. Sounded harmless enough. Maybe some sweet fantasy romance. I flipped it open to a random page and started reading.

Curiosity tugged at her to go to the library. She got out of the room and followed the path Alice had described. The library's doors creaked open, revealing rows of shelves stacked with books. The air was a bit dusty and cobwebs hung around. She wondered if people hardly came here. She trailed her fingers along the spines of the books until she found one titled: “The Lunar Bond, The mating of wolves” Her hand trembled slightly as she lifted the heavy book. She opened it, reading in silence about bonds, instinct and transformations.

She wrote about what she called the moon's architecture, the way the bonds were not accidents but intentions, the way each bond served a specific purpose in the life of the woman who carried them. The first bond teaches you what love looks like from the outside, she had written. The second bond teaches you what it feels like from the inside. The third bond teaches you what it means. I read that three times. At the back of the journal there was a folded piece of paper. I opened it. My grandmother's handwriting, but newer, more careful. Written recently.

I found my way to the library, hoping to read up on the mate bond. Thick leather bounded books filled the heavy oak shelves. Hundreds written on the instant bond at 18. only one of the other sides of bonding. I picked the book up before finding a secluded area. I pulled my knees against my chest as I began reading.

The bond changed. Not stronger. not stable. something else. something new. something the system hadn’t accounted for. Zayden looked at me. no hesitation. only decision. “If this works…” he didn’t finish. He didn’t need to. because I felt it What he was about to do. the bond surged Violent. And then It broke. not apart. not destroyed. It broke open. Into something neither of us recognized. and the thing inside him Smiled.

"From this day, you will reside in this house. There are rooms available upstairs. Make yourself comfortable. If you can't help it, eat, hmm?" I nod my head once and he went out, taking the remnants of my foolishness with him. I stood and watch from the windowas he leap from the cliffs skillfully and landed on with his four limbs, his furs easily spotted in the dark. He was fast and soon vanished behind the shadows. Bond. He says that the bond is what heals a wound. What exactly is this bond that we share?

--- Alone again, Kael looked down at the book in his hands. Twin Bonds of Power. Whatever this was— It wasn’t just a connection. It was a risk. A weapon. And possibly— A weakness. Kael exhaled slowly, closing the book. “Let’s see which one it becomes.”

I reached the reading table. There was a book on it. Face down, open, the spine slightly worn from being held many times in the same position. I recognized the binding; I had seen books from this series before, in the palace library, part of a collection on the history of shifter bonds in Aetherwyn. I picked it up carefully and turned it over. The chapter heading at the top of the open page read: Suppressed Bonds and Their Consequences. I stood at the table in the quiet library and looked at that heading for a long time.
