“They will smell worse in a few days,” I replied. “The excarnation removes most of the flesh and organs from the bones, but there is always a bit left behind. If an animated skeleton is kept long enough, it passes through a rank stage, and then the smell settles as the remaining flesh rots off. They never smell fantastic, and their smell is definitely more noticeable in large numbers, but it does get better.”
