They weren’t a group I should miss. I rounded the corner and found it harder to keep walking. I collapsed to the side onto a bench and took a few breaths. This was ridiculous, I couldn’t have been feeling guilty. What was wrecking me had to have just been the stress from the last day. I heard the tip tap of nails on concrete and looked up thinking I would have seen a giant black wolf running down the sidewalk towards me and my heart leaped. Of course no such luck, it was just some jogger with her dog. It wasn’t even a wolf like breed either it was some lab mix.

Maybe one day my talent will get me somewhere better in life. Ah ,grief, I should not treat you like a homeless dog, who comes to the back door for a crust,for a meatless bone , I should trust you. I should coax you into the house and give you, your own corner,a worn mat to lie on, your own water dish . You think I don't know you've been living under my porch. You long for your real place to be readied before winter comes . You need your name, your collar and tag, you need the right to warn off intruders, to consider my house your own and me your person and yourself my own dog . A poem by Denise Levertov.

Again! “You can just throw those in the back.” I said tipping my head at the bones. Man, I was tired. Dingo dropped the bones in the truck bed with a loud rumble. Four, big bones rolled about. “I’m sure Biscuit won’t mind the dirt and a bit of rust on them.” I smiled and opened the door. Biscuit literally flew out, around the truck to Dingo who was trying to make his way over to me. I laughed gently, “He must really like you.”

Well, two can play at this game. "Actually, you sent them to me for no reason, and now I'm sending them back to you for no reason. By the way, don't you want to see how much care I put into the second dog? Just take a look at him, notice the broken bones protruding out of his joints? Did you know that the sound of bone breaking is very similar to that of a dry branch snapping? "Liana, that's enough! You're crazy and insane! It was his property, he would say. One midnight, the dog walked arrogantly in the middle of the street. Anyone that dared to share even just a portion of the concrete got kicked or bit. They were intimidated by him. He walked right at the center not looking. Then in just a few brief seconds, a ten-wheeler truck came at about 120 kilometers per hour. Just like that, that proud bully of a dog was reduced into bits and pieces. It took that truck to put his feet back on the ground. “What a morbid thought!” Polly shook his head. He should not be thinking about morbid things. “This is a step closer to having my human finally! I don’t want her to get that gloomy vibe from me.”

The late afternoon breeze swayed the colors like waves in the ocean. Mickey, Isa, and Agatha stood in one row behind the bonfire. “They killed my fucking dog,” Agatha whimpered in grief. “I found this cardboard next to his body when I woke up. Someone must have slipped poison in his meal. Why did they have to include him? This is so fucking unfair.” The air was of mourning and a creeping sense of worry. It’s clear that they’re getting attacked. Someone’s out to get them, they all knew that. “Oh this is bad, this is very bad. We are obviously being attacked.”

At first I thought it was one of the many toys that were littered around the garden, but it had a strange shape that I couldn't figure out. I got up from my crouch and walked cautiously towards it. The wind had died down again and the little brown thing could no longer be seen. Since I hadn't yet searched the bushes on this side, I stayed cautious as I bent the branches aside. Immediately pity overwhelmed me. No, that wasn't a bloodthirsty prole who wanted to pounce on me right away, this was one of his victims. I found the dog from the kennel. Or better, what was left of it. Claws and teeth had destroyed his body almost beyond recognition. There was blood everywhere, bones protruding at imp

‘It mentions beasts twice, which has to be the bulls, right? ‘I’d assume so.’ I agreed, ‘Let's say the poem is about the beasts. So, one beast is compassionate and kind, the other is well—evil. So, to recover what was lost, we have to choose one of them. Does that sound right to you?’ ‘I guess it makes sense. Like I said, I’m not one for poetry.’ Rayna shrugs, ‘I suppose the bigger issue is which one is the good bull and which one is the evil bull?’
