I think I spent some time reading the book, and I almost forgot I was waiting for Gladimir to return. It was when I got to the second to the last chapter, I remembered that I was waiting for Gladmir. I glanced at my wristwatch, and I was shocked at how fast time had passed. It was about four hours already. ‘I had just spent four hours reading a book’ I frowned. I stared back at the book. When I was done with the book, I glanced at my wristwatch, I had already spent an extra hour. I ran out of patience, I couldn't wait for him any longer.

He laughed out loud freezing all of us from terror. “You all have survived for 48 hours, congratulations to all of you… Let’s see how long you all could make it.” He announced evilly from the speaker. The people around me looked at each other quietly, while one inhaled quietly, “48 hours…” Yes, 48 hours which meant two days had passed, and two men had been killed by this man, but the question remained all the time from the beginning till now, why did this man kidnap us? The average employee of the news firm, why? What will he get by torturing us here and keeping us here locked?

Author's Note: In the previous chapter, Robin's ultimatum was stated as 24 hours. This was an error - the correct timeframe is 48 hours. Susan I wheeled myself through the pack house corridors on the second night, the sound of my chair's wheels echoing against the stone floors. The chaos from Robin's ultimatum still buzzed in my ears. Forty-eight hours. The countdown had already begun, and somewhere in the building, Damon was mobilizing search teams that would never find what they were looking for.

Tangled. He stayed inside me, softening slowly, arms wrapping around me from behind. Spooned tight. His heartbeat hammered against my spine. Minutes passed. Rain drummed steady on the roof. Then he spoke—voice low, rough from shouting. “We have forty-eight hours.” I turned in his arms. Looked up at him. “We use every one of them,” I said. “We don’t wait for her to strike. We strike first.” He kissed me—slow this time. Tender. A promise.

Except for the low hum of the legacy root. And the steady advance of red markers across the map. Forty-eight hours. Until someone decided what we were worth.

I clicked the power button, waking up the smart TV mounted on the opposite wall, and navigated straight to N*****x. I scrolled mindlessly through the endless rows of recommendations—dark thrillers, cheesy romantic comedies, sprawling fantasy epics—searching for anything loud and distracting enough to drown out the quiet hum of my own thoughts. I didn't even care what I clicked on; I just needed a portal out of my own head, even if it was only for an hour or two.

Aiden responded briefly as he hugged me. I asked him about many things and Aiden answered sparingly. It was more busy pampering me than answering my questions. That night passed as normal. Aiden continued reading the Hydraulics book while I am a bit relaxed since I don't have anything to work on. I slept the entire night and woke up the next morning, went to work, and was willing to be a better person.

One hour passed by and I was losing my hope as only two books were remaining. Only twenty minutes and I went through the remaining two books. My heart was saddened when I did not find the cure. With an angry growl, I kicked the shelf. And a small leather book fell down. Frowning, I took a look and flipped it.

A voice suddenly said and I moved back immediately but Mr Alistair stood and only turned around to see the person. “Lucian,” he acknowledged and stepped away from me. I looked to find the dragon prince standing by the doorway, he didn’t even spare me a glance, Mr Alistair walked over to him with the textbook which he collected and walked away. “Have a nice day Miss Martins” Mr Alistair said with a friendly smile on his face, I simply nodded and walked away. After I left the class, I walked through the hallway going outside. I stared at the olden themed building and suddenly remembered the forbidden one behind. I sincerely hoped Daphne was alright in the said solitary confinement. I stared at
