Chapter 129: 48 Hours The phone was still warm in my palm when the ultimatum ended. Forty-eight hours. The words echoed louder than the flatline I’d heard in my nightmares since Callan went into surgery. I stared at the blank screen until it went dark, then looked up at the faces around me. Tate looked ready to throw something. Beck’s jaw was clenched so tight I thought it might crack. Elodie had stepped back into the room mid-call, her expression grim.

“We have 48 hours or we lose the company.” Richard walked past her. “Then find Whitaker.” --- *5:00pm | 60th Floor* Elena was reading the evidence again. Mercer came in. “48 hours. They won’t make it.” Elena said nothing Her intercom buzzed. “Ms. Carter, Ryan Hayes is here.” Elena frowned. “Send him in.” Ryan came in. Tie off. Sleeves rolled up. “Ms. Carter,” he said. “Mr. Hayes.”

“Mr. Smith! The baby is almost out of breath. We’re performing CPR… If you truly care about him, come over quickly to save him!” Hearing that, Susan’s smile deepened. “Eason, there’s no time left. Are you signing or not?” My hands trembled as I reached for the pen. Bang! The door was slammed open. My grandfather’s butler, Sam, burst in with four bodyguards dressed in black. Sam shouted, “It’s wrong! Everything is wrong!”

In an instant, my chest was squished out of shape. He had such solid muscles. That was the first thought that popped into my head. Forty-eight hours. I could hold everything together for forty-eight hours. I had been holding it together for two years. Forty-eight more hours was nothing.
