Book Club Historical Fiction Novels & Stories

I asked, as if I wanted to read now before going to bed. He nodded. "Yes, ma'am, we do. I approached the bookshelves and looked for a book that I could read. I was looking for a catchy title. Most of these books are romance themed. Until I saw the book entitled Staged Smiles. It caught my attention so I grabbed it from the shelves. I also grabbed one story which is Philippines' historical fiction themed. Then I went back to the counter.

"I borrowed it from the library. It's amazing how good that book is. The writer is crazy. I've been exploring different genres lately, though." I nodded, sensing a shared interest emerging. "I love exploring new genres. It's like entering different worlds without leaving the comfort of your room. But I’m going to stick with my sci-fi.” I said, it sounded like a joke and Brenda laughed about it. “Have you ever tried reading historical fiction? Echoes of Time is one of my favourites." Excitement danced in my eyes. “Yes, I've read that one too. The way it weaves history and fiction together is pretty good. Do you enjoy the historical aspects as much as the story itself?"

Audrey didn’t quite understand him, “what do you mean?” Nathan’s lips curved into a mocking smile as he sat up, “I was thinking there was a book for the likes of you but it seems you don’t have it” She heaved a sigh, he was Making mockery of her again. “I have Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, 1991. I also have Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston, 2019,Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, 1813. And Seven Days in June by Tia Williams which was written two years ago then I also have love hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood which was also written two years ago”

Dawn shrugged, “well he is cute, and lovely and handsome, and strong and wise… so… why not?” Ashley shook her head, “fine done, if you win then I am going to give Rafael a day of now, let’s start.” And so race started to look for the suitable book that can answer their curiosity but after even two hours they found nothing but suddenly Dawn said, “look what I got.” Dawn came to Ashley with a smile and said, “see this…” Ashley looked at the book, “the history of the council?” “I bet there has to be a mention about vampires here.” Dawn said, this book is quiet old at least it looks like that, let’s see.”

Some of them read multiple times judging by the cracking of the binding. History. Military strategy. Economics. Law. Psychology. Philosophy. One entire shelf of biographies of powerful men across different centuries and continents. And then something that surprised me. Fiction. A whole section of it tucked into the far corner like something private. Novels. Some of them old enough that the titles had faded. I pulled one out carefully. A Russian novel. Thick. Dense. The kind of book that required patience and silence and the willingness to sit inside discomfort for extended periods.

Not knowing what to do within the four walls, sitting under the tutelage of two friends, she spent time reading books. The library is large and caters for every taste, from historical novels to mysticism, 20th century literature and Sherlock Holmes antiquarian collections, the first as far back as 1902. But no matter how much I liked to dive into the worlds of the authors, I was haunted by a thick layer of dust on the shelves and books. I decided to do something useful and clean these treasures from years of dirt.

Then she remembered- while she was exploring her room, she had seen one of the cupboards that had books in it, and she went in search of one. She found a few titles and decided to stick to some historical romance she found, about the Comanche warriors and blood moons, Texans, war and the Prairie. It was just as she sat down that she heard Charity's familiar knocking pattern. Pulling open the door, she saw her friends and ushered them in.

One of the girls who found Sonia ‘cool’ then asked, “What's your favorite book?” A lot of books were her favorite, but she ditched them all to say, “You probably haven't heard of it. It's called The Age of Exploration.” She felt Darrell look her way as soon as she said this, but she pretended not to have noticed. “It's a history book, actually,” she continued. The teens' faces scrunched up in distaste. “History?” one of them groaned. “Ugh, boring.” “Yeah, who wants to read about a bunch of old dead guys?” Another one chimed in.

SHARON’S POV I never imagined I would step foot into the royal library for anything other than sneaking in to read fantasy novels I had no business touching. The irony wasn’t lost on me as I sat at the long mahogany table now, a stack of heavy history books in front of me, none of which had dragons, witches, or star-crossed lovers on the covers. The head historian, Elder Marcellus, cleared his throat for what felt like the hundredth time. The man was ancient, his white beard reached almost to his stomach, and he had the habit of adjusting his spectacles every two sentences even when they didn’t need adjusting.

Her hair was bright pink, her nails painted black, and she wore a T‑shirt that said “Books Before Boys.” “You’re new,” she said, handing me my drink. “Is it that obvious?” “You have that look. The ‘I just moved here and I don’t know anyone’ look.” She leaned on the counter. “I had it too, two years ago. It fades.” I laughed. “How long did it take?” “About a week. Then I found the book club.” “Book club?” She grabbed a flyer from under the counter and handed it to me. “Tuesday nights. The Spined Fox bookstore. We read everything from literary fiction to trashy romance. No judgment.”
