Mrs Grace said as she handed over the black book to me. “History of the sky blue pack” was written in gold at the topper part of the front page.

She followed Willow around the corner and into an aisle labeled Biographical Histories. Willow stopped in front of the third shelf and ran her puffy hands along the spines, finally pulling out a book and handing it to Clara: Historic Crimes in Hiestora. When Clara pried it open, the book issued a hissing sound and she noticed it suddenly felt lighter in her hands. Cracking open the dusty tome, Clara noticed pictures that were moving as if the history was playing out once again inside these pages. Below the pictures were written texts of the events.

No longer able to slip my finger over the backs of the books for fear I might touch something else I didn’t want to know about, I tried to read some of the titles, but I could see these books had been handled a lot. I wondered where they would have been stored in the library and who would have spent so much time reading them. And why had my mother hidden this book in her secret library? I moved to the shelf where I had found it, running my fingers along the spines of the other books, hoping to find something else, anything else that might give me a clue. But these shelves only held books about pack politics, territorial disputes, and leadership strategies. Nothing personal. Nothing that would help me understand this mystery. I pulled out another book, then another, scanning their contents frantically. Trade agreements. Historical pack alliances. Economic theories. A thick volume on the history of the Council of Alphas.

They were information that should never cross the door of this library. I made a mental note to delegate this to Mitch. Walking past Libby, I pushed the door of the restricted archives open, turning on the light. The place immediately brightened with golden streaks of light illuminating the books. The archive was as dusty as I remembered it. I went straight to the middle shelf, bringing out the huge brown leather covered book. Now and Forever: The History of Pure Moon Pack I couldn't understand the reasoning behind placing all the pack's major history in one book when we could easily split it out, the Elders always spewing about following traditions.
