Watching television had not quite worked out for Mercy either time that she had tried it, so she decided to spend her day reading a book. Luna Isabella had recommended something called Little Women to her, which she said was a classic, and so far, Mercy was enjoying it. She’d curled up in the window seat in the bedroom she’d been sleeping in. Outside, fall leaves fluttered from the trees, spreading a blanket of color all over the velvety lawn. Mercy’s eyes kept wandering away from the words, even though she did like the book. Once her eyes strayed from the words, they quickly slipped to August.

Kennedy POV. The weather was bad, but I needed to get that new book, it's Robert birthday gift, who'd knew a grown up man would kill for the newest werewolf love book. I got into my car, drove carefully toward the local book store, they had the new book reserved for me. It was supposed to one quick drive, until I walked into the library. A girl was sitting on a bean bag, her blond hair was covering her eyes with overgrown bangs, she tried to huff them away from her face but to no use. She looked young, maybe she's just here with her parents, looking down at the book she had in her hands it was a kids story. Does she read for the local kids? Or is it just for her?

Gah, she hoped so. “I don’t want to take up too much of your time. I’m sure you’re busy.” “No, that’s fine,” Mia replied, her stomach sinking. Maybe this woman was simply calling to try and sell Mia something or to do one of those phone survey things. “How can I help you?” “Have you heard of ‘Little Black Book?’” Harley asked. “The new women’s magazine?” Mia asked, her heart jumping into her throat. “That’s the one,” Harley replied and it sounded like she had a smile on her face.

And as we ate, we watched one of Lucy's cartoons again. I'm starting to like these crazy animations. Lucy fell asleep and I took her to her bedroom. I headed back to Danica’s bedroom to check on her one more time. I leaned against the door seeing her knee-deep in the book she was reading. I took a peek at the cover to see what kept her so entranced, and I smiled when I saw it. Man into Woman, written by Lili Elbe and published posthumously in 1933. I watched her as she read the book.

Read the back. Something about a girl with powers. I put it back. This was idiotic. I didn't know what she liked. Didn't know what sixteen-year-olds read now. A woman nearby was browsing. I looked at her. "Excuse me." She turned. Looked startled. "Yes?" "Do you have kids?" "Um. Yes. Two." "Teenagers?" "One. Seventeen." "What do they read?" She blinked. "I'm sorry?" "Books. What do teenage girls read?"

The woman climbed a short ladder and began pulling down a few books. “These should help,” she said, setting five large, dusty tomes on a nearby table. “Sorry about the condition they’re ancient. Let me know if you need anything.” “Thank you,” Anna said as the woman walked away. Rhea and Anna sat cross-legged on the floor beside the table, surrounded by the stack of heavy books. Their covers were worn, their spines cracked, and the pages yellowed with time. Each had a unique title: 'Tales of the Mystical Creatures', 'Powers', 'Hidden Behind the Voice', and two others with faded letters too difficult to read.

Opening the first page, I was not suprised to see the Dedication, I read it silently and I was amazed to find out that the book was written by a Young Woman of 18. ' So there are Young Writers? ' I asked myself feeling suprised. Almost all the books we read in literature class were written by old Men and Women with some of the Deceased.

The bracelet moved to and fro along with the keys which the woman beside me had to press. I was so fascinated and wanted it. “Tam, are you taking good care of me?” asked the woman I use to calls teacher. He snapped me out of my thoughts for a moment and I quickly answered his question with a curt nod.

“I don’t sleep much.” I should have stepped back, but I didn’t. The room seemed smaller with him in it, the walls pressing in as if to keep us close. He reached past me, plucking a worn leather-bound volume from the shelf. “This one,” he said, setting it on the table, “is worth losing sleep for.” It was an old history text, its pages brittle, the ink faded. He didn’t open it right away—just stood there, one hand resting on the cover, his gaze locked on me like he was searching for something.
